KILT HD-3

is now simulcasting 610

Wonder why they did that. 610 probably gets better coverage than KILT's HD signal. They cut off the HD signal during the Texan games. Or it seems like they do.

Building penetration. Most Houston AMs are nonexistent in downtown buildings. Between the construction of the buildings and the interference from computers, fluorescent lights, etc. The only AM is am able to receive without too much interference in my 15th floor cubicle downtown is KPRC.

Does AM reception degrade as you get above ground level, anyone?

Surely it's not unprecedented. Recently, CBS started airing the WFAN signal on the HD-3 channel of its WXRK-FM/K-Rock.

Technically yes, during day-time hours AM travels via "ground waves" (as opposed to sky-waves at night). However, your building is grounded so it's most likely computers, lights, traffic control, and the other million wireless signals in downtown. Power lines also tend to do the trick.

Another simple reason for it on HD3... because AM sounds terrible. I've listened to KTRH news/weather alot more since it's been on KLOL HD2.

If they left on the HD during the Texans games, the people in the stands would hear our QB throwing a pick 8.7 seconds after our opponent has run it into the end zone.

Wow,
Houston is keeping in with HD. Wonder how many people in Houston have HD Radios? Sad in Austin most stations stopped broadcasting it. San antonio only has 4 new channels in HD multi cast, Victoria has none in HD.

One odd thing here is while most if not all FMs are in HD, the two biggest AM signals in town, 610 and 740, are not in HD. Thank God.

The in-band on-channel (IBOC) form of HD is the worst way we could have done it in the US. I you've ever listened to Eureka 147 in Europe; it is far superior to the way we're trying to do it here. But, we had a FCC that wasn't really on board with the concept; and tightwad owners who were scared to give up their analog signal. Which, by the way, they aren't making any money with anyway.

AM HD Kills almost everything I can hear what they are saying now. in my analog radio, I can hear the hash sounds from other HD stations over the analog stations. I think AM HD needs to go away. Just my opinion.

Who are the big offenders down in your area? I'm sure WOAI's HD is loud; we can hear those sidebands over here. I've even heard WBAP's HD sidebands down here.
