Whoops, missed that. Looking around the country, iHeart doesn't really do a lot of 100% sports talk stations. One exception is KJR in Seattle. It's a pretty standard sports talker, but is getting killed by KIRO. In other markets, they combine sports and music. One example is WMMS in Cleveland, that is primarily rock during the day, and they also do MLB baseball and other sports.

They also don't do the simulcast thing a lot. In Seattle, they moved KJR to FM, and the AM is running all syndicated sports.
 
While most of the responses have been guessing that KFNC-FM will change formats as a result of this (and I think that's a pretty good guess as well), I'm also wondering if Audacy is thinking now about cancelling the KIKK-AM license. It's a day-time only station that will never have 24-hour coverage as long as Nashville's WSM has 50kW 24/7 on that same frequency.
 
I am shocked they would sacrifice The Spot, or any station in their cluster to be honest. But if they do end up generating more revenue with one station on AM/FM than with two separate stations, then more power to them.

I guess this officially closes the book on classic hits/adult hits in Houston for the foreseeable future. iHeart and Urban One aren't going to take up the format and hurt their existing brands (Sunny/Eagle). 104.9 could be a great candidate to pick up classic hits, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

My take is the format has run its course. It was useful in the pre-streaming days. But if people want unhosted 80s music, there are streaming services they can subscribe to. For Audacy to survive they have to create content they own that they can sell. They can't do that with The Spot. They can with The Fan.
 
I’m quite upset by this change. I love The Spot. That and The Eagle are my 2 most listened to stations. Guess I’ll start streaming 94.1 & 104.9 The Lake more since La Nueva eats up their coverage all the way up to Panorama Village.

I was in LA earlier this month. The Fan is not a very good station in it's current form. Feels flat and lifeless, no sense of place. LA is such a fractured sports market.

KNX is still good on 1070, but it should have stayed on 97.1. I don't understand the decision making over there.

ZERO identity. It’s just people talking sports. Not even funny or witty, just generic opinions. They have a night show that’s pretty decent and has some show bits but other than that, it’s been stale bread with 97.1 The Fan.

Agreed. There's way too much overlap with both playlists. KESS was supposed to compete against KQQK but it seems it's also competing with KLTN. That's not ideal.
