Kim Douglas on 93.7 WSTW this morning

Good move no matter what. This is what the 4th or 5th Philadelphia air personality to grace WSTW's airwaves? If she does land the gig, she'll sound great.

I gotta agree. Even though she is a change over what the older WSTW audience is used to,
she'd be fantastic as a FT replacement. Just think...a female co-host that does more than
read cards and giggle!

First smart move I've seen on Shipley Road in a little while...

FWIW:

I listened a bit this morning, and not only is Kim still on, it's billed as the
"WSTW Morning Show with Dana and Kim"...I can get used to that. :)

Good for Dana McDonald, too. I know he had to be worried for his position when
everyone around him got the hook. It'll be interesting to see what the show does
now, with, IMO, a pretty solid morning show team.

My one thought: (and someone can correct me, since I don't know Kim's complete resume)
Is Wilmington too small a market for someone who's been around Philly enough like Kim? WSTW
has a great south Philly signal, but still.

There has not been a great track record for Philly talent "slumming it" in Delaware, at least as far as I can recall.

Remember Valerie Knight's stint as Loudell's sidekick at WILM? I don't think that went over very well.

Are there any other examples of Philly people coming to Delaware? Were there any who came here and stayed for any meaningful duration?

Charlotta Bradley had been an air talent in Philly and moved down to WILM doing evening talk. After a relatively brief time with some success, she moved over to WDEL for pm drive. That turned out to be s disaster as she was replacing what had been a two hour news block. Ratings dropped by 50%!

She was moved to a mid-day slot, didn't work much better. She ended up going to a news service gig in D.C. (her sound bites can be heard on KYW).

Her lack of success at 1150 was in part her own inability to figure out how to run short bits in the way Rush does. She was so used to long form talk that she need good programming direction. Alas, that was never available at WDEL in those days, as the AM did not even have a program director!

Former TrafficWatch reporter Nancy Johnson was on with Dana for the Friday morning show. She sounded real good.
I think she has been working at a Delmarva station downstate or in Salisbury.
So, don't throw a huge welcome party for Kim Douglas just yet, it appears.

Nancy worked for a long time with WXCY, doing mid-days, among other things. I believe
when she had her first baby, she took some time off. Nancy would be another good
fit at WSTW, if an agreement with Kim D. isn't able to be worked out.

Regardless, both women would be upgrades to the morning show. I'd toss former Jill fill-in,
and Saturday night host Cristin Daly's name to that list, as well. Dana could really help improve
her already good co-hosting technique.

Philadelphia Talent In Wilmington

Going "old school", Hy Lit and Tom Donahue each had stints in Wilmington after WIBG (Lit I'm pretty sure at WAMS, Donahue briefly at WILM).

Veteran Philadelphia AC jock Mike Bowe is doing weekends at WJBR-FM.

Cathy Donnelly has done shows for WDEL, though I'm not sure if she's still there.

I'm sure there are more that just aren't coming to mind at the moment.

Valerie Knight sounded excellent during her short time at WILM, around 2002. She brought a big-market sound to the station, which at the time had a terrible hodgepodge of real broadcasters and amateurs side-by-side on-air. (There were network-caliber anchors--i.e. John Lewis and Joe LeCompte-- introducing pieces done by guys and girls I wouldn't have put on a carrier-current college AM.) Unfortunately there was zero chemistry between Valerie and Loudell, which to me renders the two-person anchor/co-anchor format pointless. Loudell is much stronger on his own anyway.

"network-caliber anchors--i.e. John Lewis" ???

Say what? John Lewis had some sort of dental/speech/or technical problem that caused him to whistle any time he said an "s." I could never understand why he was never corrected by anyone at WILM. Of course, it would not have been Loudell because he would not have wanted anyone to "sound better" than him. He still sounds like a pompous bag all alone on WDEL.

I'd have to agree with George Brusstar, as I worked with both John Lewis and Joe LeCompte while at WILM as well as with George; both John and Joe are talented and know their stuff and yes could be at any radio network they'd choose.

Cathy left DEL in summer 2004, if I remember correctly, as her family was moving somewhere in the
Poconos. She was a complete pro, and a blast to work with.
