Kim Komando To WABC?

Sister station KABC in Los Angeles is going to be carrying the syndicated "Kim Komando Show", which is heard on nearly 500 stations - though I do not know if she has ever been carried in New York.

We all know how much WABC embraces syndicated programming... Will we be hearing Kim on 77 soon, even if on tape delay? At the time Komando is live, WABC is busy flagshipping the syndicated "Larry Kudlow Show." Perhaps on Saturday afternoons after Kudlow? That's currently Monica Crowley's time slot. Maybe Komando will show up on Sunday afternoons. It'll sure be more interesting than colon blow infomercials.

I doubt it. WABC seems committed to running as many infomercials on the weekends as possible. Airing Komando live would mean replacing Larry Kudlow (not likely.) They could replace Monica Crowley (not a bad idea) but, other than that, the show would be eating into sacred infomercial time!

KABC needs to compete with other talk stations (namely KFI) that don't run infomercials at all, while WABC has no such competition from WOR on the weekends.

If you think about it, Crowley is syndicated by TRN, and I don't think there are any other programs on WABC's schedule that are TRN shows. (Incidentally, former WABC personality Mancow has his current morning show syndicated by TRN, though he did a completely different local show for WABC.)

And I never suggested WABC air Kim live. But with KABC carrying the show live on the West Coast, you'd think they'd throw in WABC just for the clearance in Market No. 1.

... Kim Komando's Daily Digital Minute is already on WCBS 880, so I don't think Komando's show will end up on WABC.

This is radio... Money talks, Marc. ::)

Rick Sklar, the legendary PD at MusicRadio 77, insisted that his weekday crew do weekend shifts. He shared the belief of the PD at KBIG that throwing weekenders on the air give you a "weak-end". Give your weekend listeners a taste of what they could hear during the week.

Yes, you are bringing in revenue by airing infomercials. But your audience is tuning out. They are not listening. Give them "the best of" shows by Rush, Hannity, Levin and Imus. Mark Simone, although basically a "weekender," fits nicely and is familar to the audience as an Imus and Hannity fill-in. I would throw Kommando into the mix, although I doubt that will happen.

Best of shows don't work in political talk, especially in an election season. What has changed since last Tuesday? Why do I want to hear Rush postulate about what will happen if it's already happened? WABC needs to be NOW and live all the time, especially in this political climate. Being last Wednesday isn't going to bring in the audience. It isn't like listening to the best of Stern, where a fart joke and Eric the Midget are the same on Monday morning or Saturday afternoon.

Your theory, and Sklar's applies to music. Sure, Ingram spinning the Beatles on Wednesday or Sunday with a wisecrack in between worked fine. Playing a show from last week, or pieces thereof, will not work.

Depends on the host and how the shows are assembled. For example Michael Savage's "best of's" can be very entertaining. It must take some doing, but the producers pick the more evergreen segments and, unlike hosts like Hannity, Savage talks about a lot more than politics.

I happen to agree with that completely! Sklar must roll over in his grave from time to time considering what WABC has become.

Welcome to Cumulus Media Just plug in WABC to the bird.
No need for live programming

Not since Laura Ingraham got excised for the extension of Levin and Sliwa's nighttime shows. And the only reason Laura even got picked up on WABC in the first place was because ABC Radio dropped Savage chain-wide.

I can't think of any other 50,000 watt class A clear channel signal that airs as many half-hour infomercials as WABC. (I'm not counting brokered talk shows or anything of that nature; just the basic, half-hour colon blow dreck.)

I remember when WABC had "Coast To Coast" - the Friday night/Saturday morning edition was pre-empted for a five-hour infomercial block! Mo money, mo money, mo money...
