You are correct. My mistake. Still doesn't change my position on whether it could or should have been stopped/interfered with. And so long as the music remains constant, today's cuts probably won't change whether people listen.

should know by now that they could be fired at any time.

In the furure, Clear Channel will probably be a MBA case study on how
NOT to run a business.

Most of those fired did not work for Clear Channel when they started with KOST. They were acquired by AM/FM which was swallowed up by CC in 1999/2000. When Mike Sakellarides and Kim Amidon began KOST was a Cox property. No one who is successful and who brings success to the station expects to be fired, no matter the company.

yeah...the KOST calls have been around for a long time...the AC format hit in '82

Tampa Bay's top rated AC is live only in morning drive. From 10AM until 6AM it is on auto pilot---not even voice tracked. Thats Cox's WDUV. Seems to work for them, so why not CC?

I have this weird, funny feeling that CC will start a search to replace Kim. In addition to aircheck and resume,
an 8x10 glossy will be required. This is one of CC's biggest problems: since the late 90's, they hire based on appearance and not on air talent. I hope Kim takes CC to court.

KOST celebrated it's 25th anniversary on November 15th, and there was a superb multi-page tribute on the station's storied history and tons of photos and interviews with Mark & Kim, Karen, Mike & Bryan Simmons, who was on the air when the flip was made in the issue of R&R dated November 16th.

This is still very reprehensible behavior on the part of the beancounters at Clear Channel; you would think they'd be fighting to hold on to their ever-dwindling listening audiences by all means possible as opposed to kowtowing to their masters on Wall Street.

CCRLA is obviously not taking anything into consideration while making these cuts!
I mean, come on.. the personalities who were on KOST were amazing and setting radio history!

The "Mark & Kim Show" had set a record in Los Angeles radio history for having the longest running radio show (22 years.. which would have been 23 in February)! And they also received a star on Hollywood for this purpose to commemorate their 20 years together.

Mike Sakellarides, the mid-day host held a record for having the longest running radio shift in LA radio history (25 years DJing for you live from 10-3).

And Mike Nolan who was there for about 22 years bringing us traffic updates from the KOST 103 airplane.
THESE PEOPLE WERE THE FACE OF RADIO!... what a shame!

A few of their other staff were cut as well such as the Marketing Director and Internet Promotions Coordinator.

I truely feel for those who have lost their job, and I am saddened by the inconsiderate people of the CC Corporate. I have been a loyal listener to KOST and it is just shocking that they would make cuts on a station who has been doing so well with such high ratings.


I'm curious as how the rating will be dropping...

KOST FM just happened to be the station to go first with these crazy cuts, I am sure that the other CC stations in LA will be having cuts soon- probably by the end of this year.

Call me crazy but if her contract was ending on 12/31 of this year and the company informed her they would not be renewing the deal is that FIRING her or just not renewing a deal? I know it may be word ballet but to me there is a big difference between walking into someone who is in the middle of a contract, terminating them, paying out the remainder of their deal, etc versus a deal at its end that is not renewed.

I also find it a bit humorous that this is the same person who on several occasions has threatened quitting, asked to be let out of her deal, etc. When she is not the one in control she's all of a sudden the victim?
