Kim Mihalic gone?

A trusty source tells me that Kim is no longer with the Triv Show, due to budgetary cutbacks. Nothing new on this, but Triv is off today...interesting?

Could be good for the show, as I'm not sure she EVER added anything. Wins a contest, then hits the radio lottery. No problem with this move at all.

I haven't heard her in a while, but she is still listed on the WTAM web page...but that doesn't mean much.

How hard is CC squeezing WTAM for $$$?
I expect Tribe ratings were excellent and the Cavs should pull good ratings, at least for the early part of the season.(Cha-ching)
As OA said in his blog, the whole Triv show is an infomercial.(Cha-ching)
I expect Rush is doing well as is Wills...could it be Springer? And/or are other stations in the Cleveland Cluster bleeding enough $$ to force a change to the top PM drive show?

Thoughts...

I've now received official word that Dim is out. Whatever happened over there today has led to some truly, truly bad radio. I normally enjoy when Triv is out, but I actually wish he was on. Schwab sounds like he was rushed on. I'm not a big fan of his normally; too cheesy and not terribly entertaining for my liking, but that's just one man's opinion. But in his defense today, he didn't have much time to prepare. And Big Daddy is doing updates. I'm all for fun on the air, but it's just a joke; an absolute joke. This show was thrown together at the last minute, and sounds like they didn't even use the whole minute to think it through. I'd expect more from the 50 thousand watter in town. They have other people to throw on the air, no?

Can't wait to get the whole story. This is actually making 'KNR sound pretty tolerable, which is a tough thing to do.
Edited by HeyYo on 11/01/05 09:43 PM.

Through a buddy in the business...I've heard only Kiss 96 is posting positive ad billing so far in 2005 vs 2004...and they are only up a little bit....and their others are way, way off (double digits+). Great economy we've got around here, huh?

Who will fill in the dead air now while Triv eats Mr. Chicken?

I for one will miss Kim..and I wonder what Triv is going to sound like without some kind of counterbalance in the studio..hell, why not jettison one of the kids on WMMS' morning show? Do they really need three of them to talk over the top of each other?

I've not heard Springer, but I would think that would have to be a tough sell..while their weekend C-C All Star lineup in the absence of sports sounds very promo laden..that could be the root of the financial problem..

If you've noticed..the Browns EndZone show is not sponsered this season..while the Indians had anything that could be sponsered covered...

Don't be one of those "things suck around here, but are great everywhere else"
people.

Radio revenues are down almost EVERYWHERE, including New York and LA. And it is no wonder. With the internet, podcasting and satellite options available, why would anyone (who can afford it) listen to the bland and weak offerings from traditional radio. And how do the execs at traditional radio counter this?
By cutting the programming budget! They try to spin the whole "Jack" thing as some compelling new approach, but it is just an excuse to run automated music with no--or minimal---talent cost.

I guess there must be a lot of execs who are getting ready to retire, because this is all 100% short term gain (save $$) long-term disaster (traditional broadcasting is viewed by the general public--especially under 35---as old-fashioned and out-of-touch.
Edited by HHH on 11/02/05 01:08 PM.

I only posted the facts. I'm not defending blah, boring radio formats. Trust me...people who actually work in commercial radio are as bored with it as anybody...just as bored as radio hobbyists and musicians, for sure.

But, it's a business...and programmers have much less control than they did 15 or 20 years ago....and that may not bode well long-term for the industry. In many cases the bean counters rule...it's their money.

Kim's bio has been removed from the WTAM website.

I never understood her gimmick. As someone who is paired w/ the most controversial member of the Cleveland media, they sure did agree on just about EVERYTHING! Triv's show would be more effective if it included someone who was actually thoutful and entertaining - but most importantly, smart. I just never got that vibe from Kim. She never advanced the show with any kind of candor or original thought. What listeners mostly got was a bunch of "yeahs." This never made sense to me.

Apparently Kim Mihalic, and an engineer and one or two weekend jocks were let go Tuesday in a budget cut from CC Cleveland. Supposedly it was 100% an economic move due to declining earnings in 2005. That's sad.
