Kimmel now cleared in all markets

The Cox-owned ABC stations in Atlanta and Charlotte will begin airing Jimmy Kimmel Live later this month.

Atlanta will start seeing the show next week at its network schuled time of 12:05 am. Charlotte debuts Kimmel the week after that, although I don't know whether the show will air at the network -fed time or on delay.

These were the last two holdouts and this now means that Kimmel is now cleared on all ABC affiliates.

Here's the link from Mediaweek: http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/tvstations/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003606383

Indeed, but he's not LIVE on all of them!

(Attention ABC Affiliate Relations, CC: Mr. Kimmel):
When I worked at KAMC 28 here in Lubbock, we actually recorded the first part of the show, and started playing it back about around 11:35. Keep in mind that this is a problem, because the show comes down at 11:35 pm Central, live. Which means, we have to record the rest of the show on a separate DVC, and then join the second DVC before the first one runs out. They are still doing this, and this has made for some interesting on air transitions, no Joke! And why do they do this? So that they can run a repeat of Entertainment Tonight that already aired earlier in the evening, between Nightline and Kimmel. Why do they do this? I HAVE NO FRICKIN' IDEA!

Welcome to Lubbock...

Why don't they just air Jimmy Kimmel on a full (And traditional) half-hour delay then? You know....Air Nightline @ 10:35, Entertainment Tonight @ 11:05 and Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! @ 11:35.

This move would seem to make sense....

KUSA 9 here in Denver (Which is the one with the ET rights here) this. Only difference is they have Jay Leno on @ 10:35 instead of Nightline since they are the NBC affiliate.
Welcome to Lubbock...
Umm....Yeah....I guess.....I think.....err....

Cheers :D

WSB had been airing a replay on Entertainment Tonight after Nightline...then a replay of the 11 PM news...the the ET spinoff "The Insider"...then Comics Unleashed...then World News Now until 4:30.

If it were money...WSB could kave done what KAMC did. My understanding in the WSB and WSOC cases (and WFTV as well until last year) was that there was an issue with the affilation contract with ABC (which I suspect was something Cox negoitated into their affiliation deals at the time those deals were made).

A note about things: Bill Hoffman is WSB's GM, and was GM at WFTV when they started airing Kimmel.

WPTY 24 in Memphis has apparently moved Jimmy Kimmel up to 12:05 AM now. This is still delayed by an hour, but is better than when they carried Kimmel at 2:05 AM.

You lost me here. Kimmel airs live at 11:05 PM (Central). So if I understand
you, KAMC runs the 11:35-12:05 portion live, and the 11:05-11:35 portion on
a one-hour delay. I never heard of such a thing! I agree, KAMC ought to
simply run him on a half-hour delay (11:35-12:35).

This sounds like a job for TiVo, but then that solution would be too easy for some folks.

Good to see he's cleared across the Alphabet Network. His show isn't a bad one. It took awhile for Letterman to get overwhelming clearance when he came to CBS, as you may recall, so this is nothing out of the ordinary.

Letterman used to make Sioux City, IA the "home office" when his CBS show started in 1993. That's because when he started there, they were the only market who didn't clear him. I believe the stations was/is KMEG-TV (CBS) channel 14.

No Matt, it's not easy, TiVO costs money Matt.

I love how some people don't get that the rest of us are on budgets.

No.. no no no...

And I may have left something out... my bad.... it's like this:
NEWS at 10 until 10:35 (11:35 Eastern)
NightLine at 10:35.
Entertainment Tonight at 11:05 (Begin taping Kimmel)
Kimmel, first half played back, 11:35 (while the second half is being recorded.
Second half joined, sometime during the show. There's something like two cassettes that are used, and I don't exactly remember how we did it, but involved changing tapes during the break, and like I said, this makes for some careful interesting transitions.

No Matt, it's not easy, TiVO costs money Matt.

I love how some people don't get that the rest of us are on budgets.

Buy a TiVo series 1 on EBay. There's no subscription cost, and the picture quality is quite good.

Now, let's talk about budgets...I manage an LPTV which does a large amount of local programming. That means I'm also engineer, master control operator, office secretary, traffic manager, weather forecaster, news writer/cameraman, commercial producer, salesperson and floor sweeper.

I have one fulltime and one part-time technician on staff, plus a salesperson, part-time news anchor and part-time producer.

I will say one thing about the financial side of things...we make payroll and we keep the bills paid. Were it not for TiVo, a couple of MAC computers with Final Cut Pro, the automation system and EBay, we would not make it.

Now...tell me about YOUR budget.

Matt, how big of an area does your station cover? As for Kimmel, it's in real time at 12:05 AM on ABC from New Haven.

Ok, sure, no problem....

1. I take back some of what I said previously. With all due respect, I still do not make what you make (I've done just about every one of those jobs that you listed, btw). Everyone's situation is different. As much as I love TV, I prefer to spend my hard earned money on other things that I need and want...
2. I confess, I was not aware that there was a version of TiVO that did not need a subscription. I DO however have a re-writable DVD TV-top player that I can use like a TiVO, however... see number 1... and it's not quite as easy to use as a TiVO. Could you please add a link to an ebay listing of this device?
Thanks.

Here are three current TiVo Series 1 boxes available on EBay....

As for what I make, I won't tell that, but it would surprise you. After all, I enjoy living in the South, where broadcast wages are generally lower than anywhere else in the country. For here and now though, the life suits me even if the money isn't the best in the world.

that makes sense to me, given KAMC's schedule. OK, thanks for clearing
it up.

No. I am suggesting that they put the whole show on delay. This would put the show on either @ 11:05 with NO interruption (With the show ending @ 12:05 AM) or 11:35 after ET, which would come on after Nightline.

Make sense now?

Cheers :D
