Eh...there used to just be 3 stations.I'm going to be picky here: media have always been "corporate" to a certain extent. The problem now comes about through concentration of media outlets into fewer and fewer entities.

But lots of smaller owners of locals.Eh...there used to just be 3 stations.
Guess you're right on that, but was referring to corporate national media. But lots of smaller owners of locals.
Insurance companies and local businesses owned stations.
If we go back to call letters the TIC in WTIC stood for Travelers Insurance Company.
The corporate national media was RCA when it started.Guess you're right on that, but was referring to corporate national media.
I’m going to Harpo’s and get my swerve on! 😆If you go to Westport to celebrate, be sure to maintain situational awareness, based on what I've heard.![]()
Just celebrate there before sunset if that's possible and you'll be fine...it gets bad after dark.If you go to Westport to celebrate, be sure to maintain situational awareness, based on what I've heard.![]()
I've never been to KC but the area seems similar to the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego. The reviews of the area say that's it's a safe area to walk around, even at night. If the problem is drunkenness, that comes with the territory in these 'entertainment districts'.Just celebrate there before sunset if that's possible and you'll be fine...it gets bad after dark.

...just when it seemed like the power of media consolidation would trump the will of the public, audiences had the last laugh on YouTube. The record-breaking 21 million (and counting) views that Kimmel’s Tuesday monologue has drawn on the platform should rattle Sinclair and Nexstar because it confirms YouTube’s power in redefining how Americans consume television.
What could the long term economic damage to ABC -- and the network TV model overall -- end up being from this dumb stunt?
But wouldn't those two not lose much in the long haul by not showing Kimmel or preempting him to a later slot? Not to ABC, since they share in the revenue from the YouTube views. We talked about this with regards to Colbert: A big chunk of revenue for these live network talk shows comes from social media and YouTube. Broadcast gets none of it.
ABC knows its future is streaming and social media. They'll milk the network model as long as it pays. But they know its not the future. I'm sure that was part of the conversation with Nexstar and Sinclair. They saw the show got better ratings without them.

Huh? I mean everyone would love this. But where did you see this? There were rumors of ABC cutting off SEC games.
It might have been more internet chatter or wishful thinking of a bargaining chip. Block out SEC games on Nexstar and Sinclair.Huh? I mean everyone would love this. But where did you see this?
You can get by with a lot over at Salem. Unless you're Michael Medved who dared to question Dear Leader.Salem's not gonna pull a right-wing host. iHeart could (their ideology is purely bottom line), but they won't.
Still not over them burning witches. You can get by with a lot over at Salem. Unless you're Michael Medved who dared to question Dear Leader.
Do you know if KTLA is among the gutted? I sincerely hope not, given its pioneering technological history. Not the case. Sinclair is not as heavily hubbed as Nexstar, which operates most of its stations out of two enormous hubs in Indianapolis and Chicopee MA.
