Kind Of A Drag*

This board needs a jump start... must be everybody is stunned by the local and national 2006 election results.

Listened to a bunch of radio stations today and guess what? The commercial breaks are still bloated, despite shedding the political commercials. It might be a while before short breaks return to the Citadel stations, if the following cut 'n paste is any indication:

Inside Radio said:
Citadel revenues rose 2.6% in Q3 - but Farid Suleman predicts a 5% jump in fourth quarter.
[size=10pt]The management team says the stronger fourth quarter is very real, and not just a function of political revenues. How about an ad-sales deal with Google? Farid Suleman drily says "as soon as they give me 15-year guarantees, they can have" his business. As for the the recent third quarter - business in Buffalo, Baton Rouge and Little Rock was a drag* on the healthy growth out in the Western region.

So there was Tom Bauerle and his colleague Sandy Beach (aka Rocky Brooks), doing their usual sturm and drang to an even higher power today. "The country is going to hell now that the republicans have been turned into the minority party in the House." Oh, what will become of America!?

It was entertaining and humorous radio, although for all the wrong reasons, like a Stephen Colbert parody, except the B & B boys were dead(ly) serious.

By the way, is there anything that Tom Bauerle won't pitch, endorse or for which to become a huckster? Need a sleep device? Ask Tom! Car painted? Ask Tom? Divorce attorney...

Can't wait until that Christmas music starts on WJYE and WTSS.

What do they mean "going to hell" - for many people we arrived at hell's door quite some time ago. A tough world for people who have to drive the bus, can't afford health care, yada yada. Did Tom and Sandy mention we may have an 11 Trillion Dollar deficit by the time W leaves office? Larger than all previous deficits combined. I guess when you've got a cushie job as a talk show host in a nice climate controlled studio you gradually, without realizing it, developed a disconnect from reality.

Never trust a man who drives a Hummer.

I'm a bit disappointed, Mike. I thought this thread was going to be about whatever happened to The Buckinghams...

;D

Draggin' the (Bottom) Line

As for the the recent third quarter - business in Buffalo, Baton Rouge and Little Rock was a drag* on the healthy growth out in the Western region.

Interesting quote. Everybody I know on the sales side has been complaining that CBS was giving away spots at bonus rates in order to grab all the cash possible before Regent took over.

Citadel was hardly innocent, dropping their pants to grab all the cash possible before the "merger" with ABC, which had some financial qualifiers based on Citadel's shrinking stock price.

Both factors drove the rate down for everybody in town, which reduced revenues despite 10-minute stopsets. Let's hope both groups learned something - that dropping the rate and adding more units DOESN'T add up to increased revenue. It DOES add up to increased listener defection to other radio stations and/or media, like iPods, CDs, and satellite. How many times do the boys at the home office have to RE-LEARN this unalterable truth?

Stations dropping their pants in Buffalo...Shocking! And, it's not even January yet!

There was a time a few years back, when they didn't even bother putting their pants on during first quarter! Those were the days when buyers bought one spot and and got two FREE.

I guess that was the original TWOfer!

This must be Buffalo's version of "less is more." Load up your breaks with more commericlas and eventually you'll have less listeners.
