Kinda off subject, but boo-hiss

Ya mean to tell me NO---NOTTA ONE---New Orleans TV station broadcast the Jackson Square festivities and ball-drop at midnight on New Year's Eve? They all used to be down there...I was depressed to have to watch a freakin' Ryan Seacrest rerun from the hour before from New Yawk---the big "L" was playing one of those stoopid tabloid magazine shows Entertainment Insider at midnight---gee what a rotten way to bring in the New Year! That really sucked...now back to the partyin'....HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!

I'm with you on that one, Wayne. What were they thinking? Guess they "dropped the ball" even though we didn't get to see it happen.

Bu... bu... but live coverage would cost money. Next think you'll be asking for live studio operators, or even -- God forbid -- non-tracked, live and local DJ's.

Tsk, what are *you* thinking? :)

That is why more and more people from Louisiana are moving to Mississippi-Y'all got your stuff together, and it's a much smaller market than New Orleans.
ps. I MISS WXRG FM-BRING IT BACK(I used to stream it through the internet)

I was listening to GOFM out on the deck New Year's Eve afternoon while enjoying a cigar. Good stuff!

Blame Telcom 96

Yeah, I like blunts too.

What you are witnessing is the further diminishment of local radio and TV by distant corporations. They believe that cities like New Orleans are best "serviced" from afar.
I'm sure that they cite the drop in population and market size as a reason to cut corners. Long gone are the days when WWL would send reporters around the world, to the Vatican, South America and other places. That's more money for shareholders and management. Now I do know people that believe that WWL was too self indulgent in those areas, but on the other hand they didn't simply beat the competition in the ratings, they trounced them on a regular basis. You get what you pay for. WWL spent some money and they were rewarded with HUGE ratings in every book.

I do have mixed feelings about local stations pre-empting network programming. To my knowledge only 4 WWL has done this successfully with their morning news as the CBS Early Show has never done better than 2nd place.

I would rather undergo waterboarding than watch an evening of Ryan Seacrest, but I really don't think 6, 8, or 26 could provide something better than their networks; especially now.

All I can add is cherish the past, but live for today and a better tomorrow.

So sayeth Rex.

Sorry Rex, no blunts for me.

I smoke handmade, high quality cigars that aren't ruined by being hollowed out and filled with marijuana.

You do as you please but none for me, thanks.

Legislators (as usual) have NOT stepped up to the plate and now even terrestrial radio stations have to start paying these fees---each song multiplied by the # of listeners at every given time---for net royalty payments. I'm going to have to pull the plug on my pride and joy internet radio station at rocknoldies.com because of it, and don't be surprised if you see regular terrestrial stations doing the same in the upcoming days. Here's what I have posted on my website:

OUR PLUG COULD BE PULLED AT ANY MOMENT AND WE MAY BE SILENCED BY THE SAME CORPORATE GREEDY ONES THAT ARE SUING MOMS FOR $9,000 A SONG FOR DOWNLOADING MUSIC OFF THE INTERNET...THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT SAY IF YOU COPY A SONG FROM A C.D. ONTO YOUR COMPUTER OR COPY AN MP3 OFF YOUR COMPUTER ONTO YOUR IPOD YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW. RIDICULOUS? WE THINK SO. BUT YOUR WONDERFUL LAWMAKERS ARE ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN. THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO HELP US AND WE ARE NOW EXPECTED TO PAY OUTRAGEOUS FEES FOR EVERY SONG YOU HEAR MULTIPLIED BY THE NUMBER OF LISTENERS WE HAVE TO OUR RADIO STATION, ON TOP OF A FLAT $500 FEE. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S INEVITABLE---WE'LL CEASE OPERATING SOON. WE THANK YOU FOR TUNING IN AND HOPE YOU'VE ENJOYED ROCKNOLDIES. IF LAWMAKERS DECIDE TO GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND SEE THAT THIS IS A 2-WAY STREET (ARTISTS AND RECORD COMPANIES WOULD MAKE NO MONEY WITHOUT THE EXPOSURE FROM RADIO), THEN WE MAY BE ABLE TO COME BACK AND ENTERTAIN YOU. MEANWHILE, THE ARTISTS WILL GET VERY LITTLE AS USUAL, AND THE MONEY HUNGRY MEGA-CORPS THAT HAVE NOT KEPT UP WITH TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES WILL STUFF THEIR POCKETS AT THE EXPENSE OF INTERNET RADIO---OR DESTROY IT COMPLETELY. LITTLE GUYS LIKE US CAN'T AFFORD IT. AGAIN, THANKS FOR LISTENING.

Sad situation of affairs. Until A) Lawmakers stand up for us and stop this rape of radio (it's 2-way street without radio exposure they'd sell far less music) or B) Radio unites and starts charging THEM for their exposure i.e. a 1-minute spots averages $100...so every time we air your song your charge is $300...we'll continue to see things deteriorate. Artists won't see the bulk of this money, it's gonna go to the losers at record company corporate that haven't kept up with the advancement of electronic technology. Now they're desperate.
