I checked in today, surprised to see no mention of the passing of Karl Deroune of KEUN Eunice. Karl for the many contributions he made as a community involved radio jock / sales/ owner/ over the years , is fondly remembered for one of the original radio stunts back in 1959. Please feel free to correct me, but I think he stayed awake and broadcast for over 200 plus hours from a furniture store. He was rewarded with a corvette and legendary status. As recently as 2006 the city of Eunice proclaimed a King Karl Day.
I've heard that in his younger days Karl stepped on his share of toes.......but I met him when I worked there much later and he was always kind and encouraging and had a great sense of humor.

More information, from KLAF-TV, Lafayette; dated March 25th:

"King Karl" DeRouen, honored twice in Eunice history with a "King Karl Day", passed away Wednesday night. Arrangements are pending. DeRouen is best-known for over a half century of working at Eunice’s first radio station, KEUN 1490 AM, as disc jockey, sports reporter and general manager. [EDIT*]
