King Of The Hill

Since the subject of Timothy came up & with looser playlists up north, does anyone play King Of The Hill by Rick Pinette & Oak in New Hampshire? It would probably get AC or oldies airplay if anything & barely cracked the national top 40 in 1980, but was bigger in New England with the group being from New Hampshire. I was working at a station in Southern NE when it was a current & we played it pretty heavily at the time although it pretty much disappeared once it dropped off the charts. Just wondering if it ended up New Hampshire's answer to Boston's & Providence's Can't Find The Time by Orpheus.

Oak had a second 45 out a remake of the Beatles Dear Prudence which also was on one of those K-tel albums.

Can't place that one, but I do recall playing another tune by Oak "Set The Night On Fire" in late '80/early '81. Didn't know the group was from N.H. though I was aware they were a New England band.

Rats, and I thought this thread was going to be about the Roger McGuinn/Tom Petty tune.

All I got off the Internet is that Oak was based in Northern NE & started out in 1969 playing around the UNH campus so it's possible they werent NH natives.

I bet there was a time you could have heard this on a Sunday night in Claremont. Oh wait!

According to Joel Whitburn's book of Top Pop Singles based on apperances on the Hot 100, Oak got together in N.H. I have a copy of King Of The Hill on one of the Radio Daze cd series put out by Rhino dealing with some of the one hit wonders of the early 80's.

The lead singer was Rick Pinette from Lewiston Maine.

Give Boomhower my best!

Re: King Of The Hill & hello Viking

I recall playing the tunes at WCFR in Springfield, VT. The music director was very open minded and willingly gave New England bands airplay. I may even have a demo 45 in the collection somewhere. When I was a kid in South Jersey (different from New Jersey!) Orpheus got a good bit of play on the local college station and a bit on the Philly Pop stations.

Hey Viking. Wil Conrad sends his regards and says Vero Beach, FL radio has a ways to go to be as good as your days at The Q!

I recall playing a song by "Oak", danged if I can recall the title!
("This is Love"?)

Seems I've heard Orpheus once-in-a-while on the oldies station in valley.

Something tells me you don't have to shovel yourself out of two feet of snow gettin' to work in Vero Beach though. It's just not the same without those monster Wil Conrad pipes up north! Best regards and keep it real... TheViking.
