Kings of Leon, Kings of Schmeon! What a bunch of rubbish! Oy Vey!

Im happy to be out of touch. The 25th anniversary edition of Murmur has been released. Now, that's something to buy if you don't already have it. The heck with all this emo-pop punk puke, hair metal revival. modern rock rubbish! Im in my room listening to REM. Leave me alone!

;D "Sex on Fire" is sooooo0 2 months ago, (lol).

WFNX is already playing their new single, "Use Somebody." They have been around for a few years and a great band. Check them out. Don't judge them based upon SoF.

I'm sure people who were your age when Murmur came out said the exact same thing about R.E.M. Everything goes in phases. We'll always cherish the music of when we were younger more because we weren't as jaded and our hormones were most likely out of control at the time.

As for KOL, this new album is really the first one I've ever enjoyed by them.

Dammit p_herring, as usual, right on the nose!

The problem is presentation and attidude. Lyrically todays bands have nothing to offer. Stipe was and still is a poet. Im with Pickle.

I'm guessing you were a teenager in the late 80's? Either way, it's all about perception. The youth of today is a different brand, really into sarcasm, irony, self-awareness, etc. The political climate is different, culture is different, it's just really hard to compare. The argument of "Today's music doesn't say anything" has been being made for the past 30+ years.

There's plenty of music today that says things. It just does'nt get any airplay. Case in point is Jay Farrar. He's miles better than his nemesis Jeff Tweedy. Farrar is a freaking prophet!

Which further proves that we are really moving to a niche-based music community.

Murmur was an overrated record that proves again seminal records of youth can cloud judgement when it comes to picking truly great recordings. Murmur was like the secret record you could call your own. If it did Van halen 1 numbers, it wouldn't have the same legacy and you wouldn't love it as much 27 years later. Wait, REM sucked after they left IRS and jumped to Warner right? I think I've heard this one before so don't bother.

By the way, Kings Of Leon fans feel the same way with their new one. Sex on fire is like their "losing my religion". It's kind of funny you singled out that song by that band for your argument. You sort of proved my point.

REM has always been great. IRS, WB, It does'nt matter. I personally rediscovered Green. I never was crazy about the 2nd side but now I think Turn You Inside Out, Hairshirt, and I remember California are phenomenal. I always liked the untitled song. Last week I sat and listened to IRC 6 x in a row. Why I never appreciated this genius years ago is a mystery. I doubt anyone will be saying the same thing about KOL in the future. Also, Death Cab For Cutie. I can't believe Neil Young had those conrballs open for him on the West Coast. Those old hippies must have been mortified. Sometimes I get pleasure out of such things but in this case I do sympathize with them for having gone through such an ordeal.

Look, is there any other way for us to say it, again: YOU'RE OLD AND OUT OF TOUCH. Feel free to listen to your legacy bands and stop posting useless threads on these forums. They are for discussing the alternative rock format and music surrounding it. Not your own personal taste.

Also, heard Neil Young had to cancel his Forum gigs in L.A. due to low ticket sales.

I don't drink heavily anymore, but we should meet for a few drinks sometime. There's not many of us out there.
