KINGSTON-NEW FM'S APPROVED

This station sounds like it wants to be the rock side of a classic CHR radio station from back in the day. (ie the rock side of classic CFTR 80's/early 90's music)
But with a little Q107 touch to it.

Thanks for the link! Not a bad sounding station...er...test.

98.9 The Drive is officially on the air

Confirmed this week in NERW. Come late winter or early spring AM 1380 will go dark and then Kingston will have all its radio on FM.

I checked Industry Canada's database and the new CKLC-FM has a very small coverage area, even smaller than CFFX-FM which is also quite a bit smaller than the old AM station. The 'A' contour for CKLC doesn't even reach Odessa now. Even CFFX isn't that small.

Both CKLC and CFFX were audible in Ottawa, with CFFX having the better signal, that's a 2 hour drive. I think CKLC is actually gone already from AM, I thought there was going to be a 3 month simulcast and I haven't heard anything on 1380 AM for a few days now during the day. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong and the AM is still on? At night I've just been hearing Brantford Ontario at 1380. I was hoping they'd at least do the 3 month simulcast, as I would have loved to have heard the classic alternative format. I don't have a car nor any plans to go to Kingston anytime so0n, so this would have been my only opportunity to hear it for a while.

I think the three-month simulcast period is legally required for all AM-to-FM switches, and I can't think of a case off the top of my head where it wasn't used for other switches. CBL, CKMP Midland, CHUC Cobourg, and many others all have done it.

CKLC pulled the plug on 1380 as soon as they launched the FM and there has been no simulcast. As of 6 this morning, CFFX is no more. All that's left in Kingston are the Watertown, NY stations, a few from Rochester, Toronto and Ottawa, some of which put respectable signals into the city, especially AM 790 from Watertown

...but what about sports coverage?
I believe I am refering to the Ottawa Sens games for Hockey and the Toronto Blue Jays for Base Ball.

What stations carry the games in Kingston now?
I thought one of the former AM stations did.

The Ottawa Senators are now on recently-launched CKXC (KIX 93.5). The Blue Jays website still lists CFFX as one of their radio network affiliates, but that could change before the new season starts.
