KIOK is now stunting Christmas Music as 94.9 St.Nick. Possible Format Flip?

I was thinking the same thing.

Hope not, I can not stand to listen to KORD.
Would New Northwest be that stupid and let KORD become the number 1 station???

We will have to wait and see...

KIOK has CHANGED

Thunder County 94.9 in the Tri-Cities has CHANGED to something NEW.

The station is now “THE NEW 94.9 THE WOLF.” It is playing country music.

They are playing 2000 songs commercial free fight now.

This switched sometime between 7am & 8am today 12-26-06.

It will see if I can post a recording of how the sign on of the new format went.

PS: I hope they sound like 99.5 The Wolf from Portland.

So what's "new"?

When they introduced Thunder they palyed 10000 country songs then introduced a very standard hot country format. Now they introduce the Wolf with a bunch of songs, followed by a very standard hot coutry format. The competition must be just quaking in their boots. :D

I stand corrected. They are playing 10,000 songs commercial free.

Here is the launch of 94.9 The Wolf. Occurred around 7AM on Tuesday 12-26-06.

(2 minutes of stunting, the a couple of minutes of radio dial switching, then the premire of the new station with about 17 or so minutes of there broadcast. 5meg file

PS: They have also picked up the WTCO 2006 (a.k.a. Cat Country 96) jingle package from Reelworld. Then they were Thunder County; they picked up the WTCO 2002 country package. Sometime, can't remember if it was early in 2006 for late 2005 they picked up the KNIX package, which I thought, was the best.

sounds almost identical to 100.7 The Wolf in Seattle.

Ha!

Brilliant of New Northwest. As of recent books Thunder Country was in the tank. So what to do? I know - makeover!

To my non-country music trained ears I'm sure there is a bit of playlist adjustment. However, I look at this as splashy "look at me" while its tantamount to rearranging the deck furniture slightly.

Brilliant though!

Like happens so many times, a station changes its image just as the new numbers come out showing some growth. (KIOK's Fall '06 best in, I believe a couple of years)...

KIOK (OK95) is (was) a heritage radio station in the market that evolved from a "rock40" in the late 80's to a pop/rock Top40 in the 90's. The station did quite well, with good talent and a strong brand and identity in the market. Triathlon (long gone), decided they needed to take on country KORD in 1996 and OK95 was gone. A questionable format change at best. Except for a few rare KIOK wins, KORD has dominated the country battle since. The Wolf may howl, but its echoes go back to the original OK95
