KIOO Tower Down

"A Delivery Truck" some how "hooked" one of the sets of guy wires for radio station KIOO - 99.7 Porterville on Dec. 4, 2012. The tower was broken in half and landed on another smaller tower nearby. KIOO was "knocked silent" but was able to return to the air on Dec. 7, 2012. Pictures at: http://sbe66.org/?p=2332 . Know one knows how this could happen or why any type of a delivery truck should be dropping off anything to the top of Lewis Hill. Nor is this in anyway connected to the relocation of sister stations KJUG-FM or 104.9.

Many kinds of delivers are made to a transmitter site.

The first that comes to mind is propane or diesel for a generator.

Then there are things like a replacement air conditioner / cooling unit, building materials for repair or remodeling of the transmitter building, electric company bringing in a replacement or larger transformer, or even freight delivery of a new transmitter or transmission line.

And most of those drivers don't know the difference between a guy wire and a ........ ohh someone, STOP ME!
