KIOX now Testing 96.1

KIOX is now testing, I heard them playing music last weekend, then heard the ID this weekend. I wonder what type of music they will play. It was playing a Texas country type music last weekend. I thought they was stronger than they are right now. Maybe they are testing the signal also.?

Probably the Lonestar format.

This signal is very useless if you ask me. It is unlistenable in Victoria on most radios because of KHMC, and it is impossible to move it to Houston. Unless you create a format that is very involved with the community, then you have a chance, if not, forget about it.

When Lone star 104.7 was around it was simulcasting KZAM when 104.7 was KZAM. They also simulcasted KTXM Hallettsville for a little while.

96.1 was bought by KULP-AM a few months back. They should be on the air soon. They cover El Campo well.

They are on the air now. Wonder if they may simulcast KULP? They were stunting 2 weekends ago, but just broadcasting nothing the last time I checked. I just thought that station was stronger. KXXM blows it out a lot of the time. It use to not do that.

The KIOX calls belongs to the FCC. Once a company like LBI dumps them for another set of calls (96.9 KIOX to KNTE) then the original calls are made available to other companies for use. Considering the heritage of KIOX in Wharton County, it's logical that the owners of KULP, would be quick to snatch them up for a station that is relatively unknown, and in the last couple of years unheard, in the market.

KIOX is back on testing again, just came on this afternoon playing George Strait. It'll be interesting to see what format they decide to put here.

That's a good start! I would defintely listen to an all-George Strait station. In fact, I did when XM turned channel 17 into "Strait Country" last spring :)

KILT 100.3 HD-2 is all George Strait, and sounds cool.

Also, do not discount El Campo when it comes to a very vibrant little market. Lots of growth, new business, a yonger than you would think population, and a really lively night life & live music scene. *Yes, in El Campo, Texas USA*

As of today they are still testing, but now with all Texas country instead of George. Dont know if thats a sign of things to come or not.

Don't think that will be a smart move? With Texas Radio failed and them only being a rim to Victoria, I wouldn't think that would be a good choice. Looks like they would just multicast KULP.

Engineers will play the darnest things. I recall one time years ago when WOAI was a pop music station they played Dixieland in between audio tones as the engineers tweaked the audio chain in the middle of the night.

good that kulp-am needed a good night time signal with 96.1. once kulp-am goes down in power to 180 watts at night there barely picked up outside of wharton county period. this I have happen when trying to listen to the ricebirds football games at night living in El Campo at the time when I went to out of town games..however I do follow them alot, listening to them on the net.
