Kirby Wibur gone?

If you go to their website and click "on-air" it shows him still on board from 5-9am, however his picture on the main page has been removed.

I understand it's going to be 50's, 60's & 70's oldies ... real upbeat packaging and presentation.

Oh wait....I think I am looking at an old press release.

What do we get now... another national show. It was nice to have someone local on the am drive. I don't have any reason to listen to KVI anymore.

Laura Ingraham is taking Kirby's daypart, so who's taking over HER daypart?

It looks like it will be Dennis Miller for now. And John Gibson takes Dennis Miller's 9am-Noon slot.

Laura Ingraham in mornings was a good choice to compete with Glenn Beck at KTTH, but I can't see Dennis Miller being successful in the afternoons (or at all). Interesting to have John Gibson take 9-Noon.

KVI should just put Mark Levin live in afternoon drive for the full three hours and move Peter Weissbach's show to 9-Noon to go local against Rush. Maybe Dennis Miller or John Gibson from 6-9 at night? If KVI did this I think that their lineup would be much more competitive.

is it just me or does this thread about who will replace Wilbur matter? I looked up the weeklies and he was the highest rated show on the damn station and that wasn't saying much. I feel sorry for wilbur, but talking about second rate syndicated talk talent to take on Rush is a waste of board space. let me look again at the latest weekly, OH here is Rush, OH he is 16th in the market 25-54. Better focus all our attention on beating number 16?? Course Rush is the highest rated of the conservative talkers in Seattle so what does that mean? KVI has a 0.9 just behind KNBQ and Olympia stations. I feel sorry for anyone who loses there job and maybe the answer is hiring more LOCAL talent not bringing in free syndicated no-names to try and beat the only conservative who normal people know (and hate) , who happens to be in 16th place. Sheesh. This is a waste of space.

You hit the 'nail right on the head' there PSR...

Indeed. A conservative talker without Limbaugh has more filler than you can shake a meatloaf recipe at. Granted, I'm certainly not a Limbaugh fan, but people in that category look up to him with almost religious conviction. Everything else that surrounds his program in all other dayparts barely registers compared to Limbaugh.

When a talk station gets Rush Limbaugh, it's all cigars and Dom Perignon. You have a ready-made audience, the books look impressive, life is good. When an AM talk station LOSES Rush Limbaugh, well, face it - you're going sports. Or brokered Vietnamese. With a few exceptions, most stations hit rock bottom. KVI had to REALLY paddle their butts back to shore. But in the end, they NEVER recovered from Limbaugh's departure.

It's a Faustian deal really. If a better deal comes with a (usually) Clear Channel station (or one with a better signal, like KTTH vs. KVI's once magnificent, now barely audible in Everett signal) for Limbaugh and company, it's always going to be bang for the buck over station loyalty. And when he's gone, in most cases it's over. KVI however took the high road and fought like a badger. But even before PPM, they trailed behind KTTH as the "me-too" station in that genre of talk radio. (KKOL's failure explains itself.)

But looking at KVI now, they would probably be better off playing smooth jazz at the rate they've tanked....

Maybe we can get Humble Harv to do morings...

I happened to be part of the on-air staff at KVI when "Humble" dropped by for his short stint there. My lasting memory from that experience..."hey, brough, could you stack my carts in the right order, and on your way back could you get me a coffee with sweet and low?" No prob, Harv. There was no doubt I was dealing with someone who had worked in L.A. for many years.

Harv back at KVI? He probably would "kill", and would be sharp as a knife.

...and I have some L.A. stories about Harve that could almost get him put back in the cement condo!

I think there are some very relevant ways to integrate KVI into the Fisher stable ... but NOT with the current wallpaper.

Always sad to see someone lose their gig but it does come with the territory.

I thought it amazing that a guy with absolutely no radio or speaking skills lasted as long as he did on KVI.

He had a good run, now he can go back where he belongs to the real estate business.

I will certainly miss Kirby in the morning. The National talents are great to listen to, but it was Kirby I turned to for local issues. I first found him 12 years ago and have been a fan of his from that day. I stayed with KVI after Rush left because of Kirby. I appreciate his sincerity, his support for our military and law enforcement men and women, and his dedication to issues that effect me and my family here in my community (Pastor Pete is great too). God Bless you Kirby (and family), for all the mornings you've kept me company on my drive. I know you'll land on your feet and I'll be waiting to hear from you on-air again.
