Kirk Mellish censored in web blog

"Money talks and S#@t walks."
Just like I've said in this forum on a couple of other topics related to the tornados, the graphics were designed to catch the viewer’s eye, and they did just that. So, congrats to WSB for buying viewer ship.
Although, for the people that know a little about Doppler radars, weather, and about the software, it was just eye candy. Remember, it was a trained and experienced meteorologist in Peachtree City that issued the warning, not the cool graphics, which by the way, as I was informed, you can purchase the same software online.

So, from that standpoint, I agree with Mellish. They spent more time showing us the 3-D graphics than showing us where the storms actually were.

The software that WSB TV used is written by Baron Services over in Huntsville.

I don't think that the software was the problem, it was Glen Burns getting a little hyper.. and in his defense it was in the interest of safety. There is way more art than science in predicting weather, and its like all things with Mother Nature, she always wins.

I thought the TV board guys were saying WSB TV used the Gibson -Ridge products. The 3D pictures are waaaay cool from Gibson-Ridge. Google it and see for yourself.
I did not see any of the coverage so I don't know what the graphics looked like.

Every time I hear "When the weather turns Hellish, depend on Mellish" I am always thankfull his name isn't Smitty. ;D

This is funnier than mine. Dammit. :)

Now I'm jealous ... this string is funnier than any sitcom on TV ... Buddy Sorrell would be proud! :D

nah, its the Baron Stuff.. check out the link.. Burns and the other guy talked about the BTI Index all the time. Its a new algorhythm thing that looks at a bunch of different variables and comes up with a number on a scale of 1-10. According to Baron, if the number is a 7 or higher.. its a tornado. Its pretty new stuff and maybe its not as cut and dried as they say. That storm that passed over down town Saturday was above 7 all the way across town, but there wasn't a tornado on the ground anyway.
