Kirk Mellish's latest blog post

http://www.wsbradio.com/weblogs/kir...ntary/2012/jan/27/mainstream-media-talk-news/

Not only is he one of the two best weather guys in town but he has got the gonads to tell the emperor he wears no clothes.
You would be surprised at how much of your daily news, information, and entertainment is "managed" by college interns. Some with lot's of talent and future potential........but newbies none the less with little experience and training.
Syncs well with my regular diatribes here about bean counters running radio today. People who wear blinders and see only the cost of delivering the goodies. People who have no clue as to what's at stake.
It is further indication of sloth in business practices and general economic decay. One of the answers to the question,"what's wrong with radio today."

I agree with Kirk. I blame it on Walmart shoppers. Walmart only reflects what a large number folks in this country practice: a disposable mindset. A huge number of consumers will buy a cheap item knowing it will not last but a short time over something of quality which will last often two or three times as long just to save a few pennies on a dollar. Electronics and computers do not count because technology is going way too fast to figure out what will "last". An example is towels. We have some quality american made towels (over 15 years old) that have outlasted the cheap towels purchased a couple of years ago. I have twenty year old Levi's (American made) that are in better shape that 5 year old imported Levi's. I would rather by quality than junk. I feel I am in the minority. The former head of GE once was quoted to say the perfect factory is on a barge where it can be floated to the cheapest labor. I guess it is part of human nature, we want to purchase goods that were made with cheap labor yet we expect or our job to be "safe." I can't wait till someone figures out how to "outsource" CEOs.

Look at this board for a clue as to what's happening generally in our society. People are more interested in the topic "What Radio Songs Do You Hate" then they are concerning one of the fundamental problems with the radio industry today.
Your observation of "The Walmart Effect" is correct. We have become a "give it to me now for the cheapest price" nation with no understanding of how it affects our economy or lives.Furthermore.....we don't really care.
And don't worry......CEOs will be outsourced sooner than you might think. Your children will be working for Asians.....those are the people that are busting their butts to become more knowledgable and productive. Tell your kids to learn Mandarin so they will be able to tell when their Chinese masters are laughing at them.....
Like every other society in decline throughout history, we are only interested in consumption. When it comes to addressing the difficult issues we just aren't interested in putting forth the effort to solve the problem.

I found Kirk's blog a real insiders look at the reality of news. I found it fascinating yet depressing. We are dumbing down.
