Kirk Minihane

I still think one of the three will soon be on in midday. And it won't be Minihane (unless D or C has contract language forbidding a move).
Doubt they will stick with three + a nondescript flashboy. It wouldn't surprise me to see two hosts and flashgirl lineup.

I think the morning show thing is fairly easy to explain. The formula for that show for a long time was three voices. Yes, the third voice was the flash guy and he often took a back-seat to the main hosts, but it was three voices. They tried to recapture that with the hire of Kevin Winter to do the flash, and apparently he didn't fit well enough, but that doesn't mean they don't still want three voices on the show. Minihane as a third wheel fills that third voice role. He's not a flash guy, so they let the morning show fit in with the rest of the day's shows using a generic, imminently replaceable update reader who is probably subcontracted from Metro or whatever the service is called these days. Minihane's already on their payroll, so it probably isn't costing them that much more to use him on the show. End result probably is two people to replace Meter's presence on the show and the net cost is probably less. Scary to think it takes two people to replace Meter, but there you go.

And maybe they think taking this tack will get under Dennis and/or Callahan's skin enough that they'll quit and save the company having to buy out or pay off the remainder of their contract. Who knows.
That three voice theory makes a lot of sense. What's really funny is that it's true. It took two people to replace Meter. It's also funny that Minihane was an outspoken critic of Winter.

Why do people think John Dennis is going to quit? I've seen that theory(wish??) on other message boards. Because some yo-yo from the Globe thinks he should? Do you really think they'd leave a ton of money on the table because a blogger like Chad Finn drove them to it?

I listened briefly very early today. Apparently the two SS's are going to war over Brady. EEI was playing a cut from Toucher's appearance on Sportsnet.Strange.

The two stations are now "at war" over the whole Brady contract renegotiation/extension. M&M also played snippets of Gresh, Toucher, & Shaunessey from CSN. Sports Hub carries the Pats, obviously, and they seem all worked up over Brady sending an email to John Dennis about the contract. The whole thing is weird. Of all the things for the two sides to openly feud about on air it's a Brady contract and the "sides" 98.5 and 'EEI are taking over if it was good or not?

There was a great quote over at boston sports media watch.com from a local TV guy that said something to the affect of "John Dennis of WEEI, while being simulcast on NESN, is talking about what the rival morning show host from 98.5 said while on Comcast Sports New England."
Good stuff when you think about it.

Heard like 3 min's this morning --D&C-- thought something might have gone down. Dennis wasn't around and they were acting stranger than usual. Odd?

I've read on a couple of other boards that John Dennis is about to be dumped. And it seems to be based on his relationship with Minihane. Dennis, this AM, made a few snide remarks about being condescending to Minihane. I'm sure he was aiming this at the Globe's blogger, who took his usual cheap shots in a column last week. I only listen to the radio, the supposed kerfuffle between JD and KM seems to be based on their seating in the booth on the NESN broadcast. Is anyone else picking up on this? Or is it just wishful thinking at SoSH media board?

I thought they wanted a foil on the show. Isn't that why they let Iggy speak so much? And didn't they envision that role for Winter? Meter was a foil at times, but it became more about Meter's eccentricities rather than his actual opinions. At first Meter tried being the contrarian. He would always bet against the home team, but it seemed like they always won, making him look foolish.

After the way they axed Ordway, I have to believe that D&C are still working on a contract that must be satisfied before they can save any money.

I heard D & C pouring it on Kirk. They were saying he'd be a cheap replacement like Salk is to Ordway. They were calling him some name like a scab or something for being a spoiler in the industry of high paid talkers. It was uncomfortable, but Kirk took it well.

Seems the end is near.

or its a way to get ratings kind of like Fred and rich make fun of john Wallach calling him an eagle and stuff.

I've listened to so little EEI programming lately I really don't have a feel for a new approach? I did hear JD mess Kirk's surname up but I thought that was a mistake?

I wouldn't worry about Minihanne. I also think they are going to miss Ordway more than they know (though not his salary).

"Minifield"
Interesting choice to use?
They sound like they are getting along to me. I think the "Minifield" is an inside joke. Are they glaring at each other or something? I'm going to have to watch NESN.

Why does everyone have John Dennis dead and buried, but not Callahan? Is it wishful thinking?
