Feburary 1, 2007
[BONNEVILLE KIRO-AM]

KIRO-AM has abruptly cancelled popular weekend local hosts BRYAN STYBLE, CARL JEFFERS, and DAVID GOLDSTEIN.

This continues a 4 year trend of KIRO-AM and KTTH-AM local host exits, for a variety of different reasons, and a gradual diversion away from local programming, especially of the liberal persuasion. The exits began in 2004 with Bryan Maloney and Gary Ryan, followed by Mike Webb, Erin Hart, Ron Reagan Jr., N.Y. Vinnie, Mike Brown, and numerous veteran local newscasters including Val Stoffer and Kevin Ebi.

Commentary: The local liberal host cancellations at KIRO under Entercom and Bonneville gave Seattle's Progressive Talk AM 1090 with 50,000W a great chance to compete in the ultraliberal, Bohemian market. 1090 has been a genuine Progressive Talk station success story.
