Since July KIRO-AM has topped the ratings in 25-54 demos along with KISW, KUOW, KPLZ and KZOK. This was even prior to the start of the Seahawks season and now the station is even bigger. The station is well ahead of sister KIRO-FM, which has been sliding quite a bit in prime demos, probably causing the revamp of mornings.

Why is KIRO-AM so much stronger than KJR AM/FM all of the sudden? Not a sports radio fan, so find it very surprising. Seattle has never struck me as a big sports radio town, until now.
 
Actually, Seattle has been a big sports town for decades. The Seattle Rainiers led attendance in the 50's and 60's. The Sonics were huge as the real first pro franchise in modern times, culminating in a championship in '79. The Huskies have always had a strong football following, with Rose Bowl wins in the early 60's, the late 70's, and early 90's. The Seahawks made the Super Bowl in 2006, and the Mariners have made the playoffs numerous times, and also hold the record for most regular season wins. As for championships, less so, but Seattle has had its share of success. Just not recently.
 
The current PPM sample has a lot to do with it. This recent book skewed heavily toward men. It'll balance out in the long run.
