KIRO FM 97.3 No Weather?

Is KIRO doing some sort of weird joke? I wasn't sure what station I actually had on, I was catching up on some news, traffic, and weather, and all of a sudden I hear them say "KING 5 Weather". WTF? I thought I was listening to KIRO, no? Why isn't KIRO using their own weather department?

No, it's no weird joke. KIRO-FM is now owned by Bonneville. KIRO TV is owned by Cox. The two have no relationship, other than the shared calls. The KING 5 weather branding has been going for atleast a year, or more. It doesn't make sense to longtime Seattle listeners/viewers, but it does make sense when you understand who owns what.

As an aside, I predict KIRO-TV will be the first Seattle TV station to get rid of their calls, and image just as "CBS7". Mostly due to the confusion with the FM owned by another company.

KING5 has been back as KIRO-FM's weather for about a year. Previous to that - we had a couple of years where KIRO7 was doing the weather for KIRO... it was great to hear Todd Johnson and Rick Van Cise on the radio. KING5 had done KIRO-AMs weather for many many years before the short lived KIRO7 weather experiment.

Of course, KIRO-FM does have meteorologist Larry Rice on staff... so they could do weather in house if they wanted to.

Somebody's reporting the weather. That's all I know. Now if the KING-TV weather folks would stop getting so serious about it on the radio and be a little more cool about it like Steve Pool on KOMO (on both TV and radio), I think KIRO-FM might score some bonus points....

Just sayin'......Let the mudfight begin........

Remember, KIRO is "talk" and KOMO is "The News Station" and KOMO is staffed to make it happen and the numbers prove it.
