A gold star for you!

And it only figures that blowhard Pate would spill the beans to R&R. Anything to get his name in print.

Knowing Lou, no. He would not do anything to get his name in print. He has worked hard on getting rid of AFTRA and when he got the news, he was excited. This has been his baby from day one. It only makes sense he would share it with everyone.

Bye Bye AFTRA. Thanks for NOTHING!

Does it matter?

KIRO & KTTH are ratings toast. Does it matter if dead & buried radio stations have unions?

Re: AFTRA (in general)

Have any of you had a POSITIVE experience with their AFTRA relationship? Seems like they have never REALLY gone to bat for anything that substantial in this market. The couple of times I had something that required "interpretation" at AFTRA-affiliated stations, the union position was always to cave to whatever the station said. Damn good, though, about making sure you didn't fall behind in your union dues.

Most guys I know who paid AFTRA dues for years don't have squat to show for the union retirement/pension issues -- and these days the wages are as good at non-signatory stations as they are at the AFTRA ones.

I figure there must be SOMEONE who really thinks this is still a good idea, but dang if I can find them...... any takers here??

I'm not exactly sure what board you signed into, but this is RADIO-INFO's SEATTLE DISCUSSION BOARD. As in, we here discuss radio in Seattle.

If you don't want to talk about something as big as AFTRA being decertified, I suggest you go find another board... like "Britney Spears ROX", or "Lovin' Limp Bizkit". Something like that...

You missed the point. Isn't the union the least of their problems?

Does it matter???..

I didn't miss the point. You didn't make yourself clear.

It matters a lot. Especially to those who work in the business. This is a HUGE deal. The union has been a big problem for years, leading to disgruntled employees, and bad contracts. This is a really big deal. And has NOTHING to do with ratings. It's a big deal to any radio station from KMPS down to KING.

How is this a big deal to anyone outside of KIRO? Specifically why should anyone else care, since you obviously seem to Bam.
