KIRO Overnights

I just have to say that listening to KIRO doing a truck driving show overnights is disconcerting. I was willing to give it some time to settle in with me, but it just hasn't happened.

First of all, KIRO's signal doesn't really cover much 'truck driving' geography. Sure, Portland and Boise are within the skip but nothing like WLW in Cincinatti or even KSL in Salt Lake. Those signals really serve the trucking corridors of America.

Secondly - we are a city with no great transportation roots. Seattle isn't a great crossroads of commerce, it's a destination city. St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas and Louisville all have a history of distribution and transportation. We're where you're going when you pass throught these other cities.

Finally, it's just too wierd to hear a 15 minute segment on truck driving lobbying efforts or the impact of new emission requirements on the sales of Peterbuilts. This may be the ultimate community service disconnect. KIRO isn't serving the community. They are clearing a show that no one would air in Seattle without cash payments or just to reduce overhead. It's gotta be the cash because there are any number of other shows that would clear overnights on a barter basis.

That's my HONK for the day...anyone got different thoughts?

Yep, it sucks big time. Unlistenable.

Just reminds us that media consolidation sucks. They could care less about listeners.

The Midnight Radio Network, like Coast to Coast AM, and so many others are just "meter movers" to keep some modulation on the transmitter.

You're joking right?? Coast to Coast is easily the most listened to show with overnights in more than 75% of the markets it's in.

Here in Seattle, even when Lou Pathetic was on with a live show at KIRO, Coast to Coast quadrupled his numbers.

Have you listened lately?

I tuned in Wed or Thur morning and found Bryan Styble on till 4 am.
Being a driver I did at times listen to Midnight Radio.
It was a welcome surprise to find Bryan back, even as much as I hate listening to him.
