Rod Arquette will leave at the end of March. Can you say "fall guy?"

Does anyone really think that Rod made the sole unequivocal call on moving KIRO to FM? PD's alone don't make those kind of decisions. I would venture that the decision was made before he came on board. "Fall guy" is right!
For those who think it's as easy as moving N/T "back" to AM, I assert again it's NOT an option. I'm sure that long-term carriage contracts were signed with ESPN, Mariners & Seahawks.
Watch for KIRO-FM to launch another multimedia ad campaign for the Spring. They're not ready to stick a fork in this yet.

Good radio? Yes. Let's not lose sight of the fact that the KIRO PM drive guys are there to drive ratings. That is what they were hired to do. Frankly, I think Seattle radio could use a little more of that. Why not rankle some folks up? If that gets numbers, so be it. Also notice that KIRO's website put this on. Hmm.

Good radio? Drive ratings? I give those two a big fail on each count. If they were hired to pull off what amounts to tavern talk targeting middle aged stoner delivery truck drivers, then mission accomplished. Somehow I find it difficult to believe that a major market full market N/T station owned by Mormons would be targeting that particular demo. You "rankle" folks by at least relating to your audience. If that's the case with KIRO's PMD show, their average listener is male with an IQ of less than 100.

Since when did "lowest common denominater" NOT equal ratings? And why is KIRO, (owned by Mormons), above that? BTW, Bonneville's LDS "philosophy" really only applies to their SLC properties, everywhere else they are just "in business" like everyone else. And I will repeat, this story was put on the KIRO "My Northwest" website, so obviously they see some value in it.

Yes they may pay lots of money in the short term....but I'd sooner be working to support LOCAL businesses and LOCAL products than be the 24/7 equivalent of an annoying telemarketer.....
All this B.S. about who's leaving, who's in....as far as I'm concerned, you're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
