KIRO's Getaway Traffic

Hey, whats the deal?

It used to be on holiday weekends KIRO would replace the normal "RealTime Traffic Music" with a special musicbed and all the liners would be "Getaway Traffic."

So - this weekend, its all the regular RealTime Traffic stuff ...

Too bad - because the Getaway Traffic music bed was real cool, with a great beat.

Actually, this post is quite interesting.

Yes, the "Getaway Traffic" sounder was great. A great phased double-voice
produced over the usual synthesizer, with (if memory serves)a touch of engine
being revved at the beginning.

It had their former voice guy, Brian Christopher (much better than the current one) so maybe that is why they don't want to use it.

It does point up the many details that a really great PD must attend to and which I HAVEN'T been hearing on KIRO lately.

1) Many of the liners were never re-cut with the new voice guy. Not a big point, but shows sloppiness.

2) When was the last time you heard an "instant replay" on KIRO coming out of a stop set? For a while, under Kris, they were taking a compelling moment, quote or line from the previous segment and re-playing it to set up the next one.

Just a couple of examples of good, hands-on, detail-oriented radio programming you don't hear much of any more.

BTW, you know what station does a pretty good job of keeping the liners, intros/bumpers fresh? KPTK. Yes. Not perfect, but it sounds to me like someone over there is sure trying..
