Kirsten Joyce Leaving KTVK!

It has been reported that Kirsten Joyce is leaving KTVK to take a weekend anchor position in her native Washington state at KCPQ. Supposedly, she will remain at KTVK through the current May ratings period.

Who will take Kirsten's place? I never thought she was particularly strong as a solo anchor. And the one time she subbed on weekend GMAZ was absolutely awful. Perhaps Frank Camacho will return as weekend anchor (or would they dare have a male anchor at this point?).

Let the speculation begin!

I concur, she wasn't very strong on the few times she has filled in on Good Morning Arizona Weekend.

I'm wondering if Tyler Baldwin will get the role? Or maybe Javier Soto? Or a fresh face to the mix? Maybe possible, but extreme wishful thinking Diana Sullivan, oh well it would bring class to that station, probably not gonna happen. Haven't seen her on Sonoran Living Live as of late, maybe just a try out.

Just for clarification its Diana Sullivan and I couldn't agree more, this new GM has really gotten rid of some of their better talent. Add Omadelle Nelson to that list of non renewed employees.

I am assuming that their weekend evening shows are relatively low-rated, based on the resources (or lack thereof) allocated. While Tyler or Javier would be excellent, I am not sure that their talent is best used on weekend pm's. Personally, I would like to see Javier back on weekend GMAZ! He did such an excellent job -- but it seems that he is permanently assigned to weekday GMAZ now -- even anchoring at 4:30am.

I wish Kirsten Joyce good luck. I haven't watched her on 3TV much, but she seems all business to the extreme. I felt a little uncomfortable the few times she smiled! I thought of Ms. Joyce as the (KTAR) "Connie Weber" of Television.

A great replacement would be Gina Maravilla! She has anchor experience. I would miss seeing her every morning but she should be doing much more than just traffic.

Well, she tried to smile through THREE hours of GMAZ one Saturday morning and, I assure you, it was EXTREMELY painful! Even worse, I believe Frank Camacho was the news anchor that day and made it clear that he didn't want to be there.

Perhaps they could split the weekend duties -- having one person anchor on Saturdays and another on Sundays.

BTW, Kirsten will probably do fine in Seattle from a "seriousness" standpoint. The newscasts are very serious compared to most cities. So, her lack of smiling will not be a huge problem in Seattle.

To be honest i loved watching Kirsten on the 5:00pm weekends, she had that soothing voice i enjoyed so much as for her smiling or not i like them honest,if they are not in the mood to smile so be it.i cant stand fake smiling, especially if its a heart breaking story.

But, an occasional smile is totally appropriate when bantering with Brittany (about the lack of weather in AZ) or with Brad (on random sports topics).

I watched that same Saturday GMAZ show! That's what shaped my impression of Ms. Joyce.

I think news anchors have to balance between light and serious. Of course no one likes/wants fake smiling. Most morning programs have to do both well. I didn't expect Kirsten to be like HLN's Robin Meade, who laughs throughout entire segments.

And, to be totally fair to Kirsten, news anchor and morning show host require two different skill sets. Some people excel at one or the other. Others can do both well.

On the 30 May 5:00 PM show, Royal Norman (working a rare Sunday) announced not only that Kirsten is leaving for KCPQ Fox 13 Seattle and she is pregnant. Kirsten said it's a girl and she's due in October.

Kirsten said she has been at 3TV for 4 years and has "two more work days left." Not sure if that is Monday-Tuesday or Saturday-Sunday.

Darn! I flipped away from 3TV at 5pm after a few minutes. I will have to see the 9pm newscast.

BTW, Royal worked yesterday evening as well. In addition, April worked both Sat and Sun morning and mentioned this morning that she didn't mind since Brittany filled in alot during her maternity leave and deserved the time off. I hope they give Kaley some time off as well. She turned into the Energizer bunny of GMAZ -- doing both news and weather duties many times this spring!

Idea: 3TV should hire Diana or Yetta to replace Kirsten!

Wait! I have an idea for Kirsten's replacement at 3TV. How about Diana Sullivan? Diana is still in Phoenix, is very good, and would continue 3TV's tendancy to skew toward a female audience. It could work if Diana is willing to work on the weekends. They could also assign her a "beat" during the week like, for example, education or she could report for GMAZ like everyone else does! ;)

The other possibility would be Yetta Gibson, who has stated that she will be returning to Phoenix television in the coming months. Yetta did a credible job subbing at Fox 10. She could be the weekend anchor and an entertainment reporter.

I really like this idea. It would be great to see Diana Sullivan back on TV. Sorry CBS5 Let her go, she didn't deserve it.

I want to clarify my previous post about Kirsten Joyce, I now realize how much a better fit she is for the evening newscasts. I now see the professionalism shining throw. I think it just takes a certain personality, to be a good morning host, hence why Tess works so well on morning weekends and is #1. She's got the jive that works. It's the same with Celeste Rodriguez, and why she works so well with Valley Dish.

Great idea formeraa.

Royal Norman did a formal goodbye for Kirsten Joyce tonight and they showed some outtakes from her career on the field.

Saw her yesterday on the 5 o'clock segment ,she looked (radiant ) happier than ever before, best wishes to her and her new job an of course her baby(if true)!

She Kirsten actually said she was expecting with a girl, I would take that as being true!

Unless she doesn't know her body and a doctor didn't confirm she is having a girl. That reminds me of a Saturday Night Live commercial where a very pregnant Ana Gasteyer spoofed the home pregnancy tests wondering "Am I pregnant?"
:D

Kaley O'Kelley deserves at least a week off; she has more than proven that 3TV was right to bring her in. I think the writers of this Phoenix TV Board should also take a little credit because we predicted Kaley's success! :p

On Memorial Day, Kaley was the solo anchor for most of GMAZ. As always, she does a great job.

Anybody who can anchor for 5.5 hours deserves a "gold star". She did a really good job. I think I would have melted down somewhere in hour 4. :D

I was surprised that they didn't have Gina co-anchor. After all, there really wasn't any traffic to speak of on Monday. She could have easily helped Kaley out.

Bumping an old thread...I saw Kirsten this past weekend in Seattle and she's doing just fine on Q13 Fox News!

She also did a good job subbing on Q13's morning show last Friday. She was laughing and joking with the co-anchor and weather person. I was surprised given her poor performance on GMAZ weekend!
