Kiss 100 London Acheives All-Time Highest Ratings!

So nice to see that heritage Dance/Rhythmic CHR has now aceived its highest ratings ever with a 5.6 share. That's good for second place in the London ratings amongst all commercial stations (2 of the BBC stations rank higher)

This is taken from Taylor on the Radio
"The RAJAR quarterly ratings are out and the London ratings show great enthusiasm for dance music, says ratings scholar Chris Huff. With a 5.6 share for adults 15+, Kiss 100 FM spikes even higher than it did in the second quarter of 2009, when it had a 5.0. Its immediately-previous quarter (Q1 of this year) had fallen to a 4.1 share. The publicly-available RAJAR breakout even shows the “reach”, or what the U.S. industry would call “cume.” For Kiss 100, that’s gone from 1,897,000 a year ago (Q2 2009) to 1,885,000 (first quarter of this year) to a high of 2,185,000 (latest quarter). Though Kiss isn’t #1. AC “Magic 105.4” is, advancing 5.9 to 6.4 “to re-claim the top slot among commercial outlets”, says Chris. The all-in numbers give the top positions, as usual, to BBC stations. Spoken-word BBC 4 improves from a 13.7 to a 15.8. BBC 2 is back to last Spring’s mid-10 level, with a 10.6. BBC 1 has a 5.8. "

And all this comes AFTER I see the people on the London forum talking about how they've reduced their specialty and dance programming to become more mainstream a few months ago. Hmmm.... London is becoming WESTERNIZED!!

But then again,

So I'm a bit confused on what's REALLY going on here. Shouldn't they be increasing rather than decreasing dance content and specialty shows?

They definitely havent decreased the specialty Dance shows. About 4-5 years ago they decreased the amount of Dance music for a year or two, but then relaunched (when Kiss 101 and Kiss 105 were added) with more Dance music again.

And london has a new youth dance station on 87.7,, look it up.. Also Pirate station Rinse FM 100.4 is supposed to become legal soon.

It may be, I hope they didnt change the format though.

It did in fact get legal in June K..... Thats great the London gets 2 more dance stations, 5 if you count bbc1 extra and choice fm with the direction they have been going in the last year or so.. Rines FM, still is ran like a pirate and focuses on UK Funky, Grime, Dubstep, and Drum N bass, and according to wikipedia, Grime and Dubstep, which are genres im starting to warm up to, these genres wouldnt have existed. Rinse FM owner said we wanted a comuntiy license to show the world that they are not criminals, and they are professionals there to serve the public. Also the youth station on 87.7 has a community license, and the pirate Heightz fm that used to occupy 87.7 moved to 108 to give them some space.

I wonder if they are playing "I'm in the house" by Steve Aoki in London? KIIS did feature it in their new music / future hits spotlight while I was in L.A. last weekend. I noticed KIIS is also playing Deadmau5 and Wynter Gordon plus other stuff in their weekend mixes as well.

Notice how this year no one could even tell I went to L.A., but imagine the level of excitement I would've been at if these type of things happened last year at this time! Anyway, looks like things are improving in regards to dance music overall in the U.S. and London. After all, I also heard "Happiness" by Alexis Jordan on Jammin Z90. They played it twice within a three hour mix time period on Saturday night alone.

In some ways, our American KIIS (and many other chr's) are sounding like an American version of Kiss 100 in London.

You might like Radio Now 100.9 in Indianapolis..WNOU, playing alot of dance and hybrid electro hip hop lately, with enrique_I Like It, and David Gueuta- no getting over and many others in rotation.

Any of the no name genre hits with breakbeats resembling booty bass on Radio Now 100.9 as well?
(For example, this type of sound: http://7000express.multiply.com/journal/item/59/Midi_Midtown_meltdown_Mix_05 )

I've noticed most electro hip hop and pop hits are really just house or electro house with rap on it or more on the house beat pattern side. This is the sound that mainstream radio also mostly gives attention to. Half of what I play and what I like is not that... notice (almost) none of the songs in that mix have house beats. I'm not sure if it would pass as booty or miami bass.

Anyway, I will check it out.

Like you said, its mostly house hip hop type hits, actually both Indy CHRs also I-94 is pretty Dance Friendly, another one to look for is Lowell arkansa's Hotmix 101.9. It may just be the trend now, ive been busy with my station and havent listened to many out of market chrs lately.

I'm probably going to work on sending out mixes to dance stations next week. Right now, my sisters and everyone are out of town, so while they are in Las Vegas, I'm here taking advantage of the peace and quiet to get as many mixes done as possible with no interruptions. I am wasting too much time though on facebook and radio-info and yahoo.
