Kiss 101.3 in the QC?

Anyone want to entertain the thought of the oldies station going to a Top 40 format in the QC, with the recent moving or Bob and Tom off the station to Q106.5 Clear Channel faces the perspective to have only one of the top 3 stations in the market?

What do you guys think, lets discuss this possibility!!!

No, would not like that unless it's streaming. It is outside of the listening area of Milwaukee, WI and QC does not need two top 40 stations again. How about one of Des Moines, IA stations under the 100.1 frequency going CHR? Then something would be worth going under the 100.1 frequency for!

Probably Top 40/pop...considering KBEA is already widely accepted as a rythmic leaning Top 40. It would be smart anyway, since more pop oriented music will attract MORE adult females. From a sales standpoint, those older women numbers are easier to sell to clients. Just a thought... ;)

So what would it take to get 101.3 to change to a Top 40/Pop format? Like I mentioned earlier, the station is about to run into some problems pretty soon when they get deeper into the 80's!!
I do think a Top 40/pop would be the way to go for any number of reasons. I think it would force Cumulus to decide what route they want to go and if they were to eventually drop Top 40 then what in the heck WOULD you put on the largest signal they have?? Tried country, failed. It would really put Cumulus behind the 8 ball.

I think what they would have to do is not try to recreate the old 98.9. That will not work now. What they have to do is take it in a slightly different direction. Not rythmic, but do not exclude the top hits of the day. Do a music intensive format, put Mark Manuel on the air in the mornings, someone fun and lively in the middays, have a funny and engaging nightside jock. Or, do it on the cheap, put Ryan Seacrest in the morning on or even Drex from Kiss FM Chicago. Do automated music overnights, run a local dance mix show on friday and saturday nights, make an emphasis on new hits and some stuff from the 90's thrown in. Not all just the light stuff, put in top 40 hits of the late 90's, and rotate it in with two or three songs an hour. Put a variety of 90's songs on though, not just the 15 or 20 songs all the time with the current hits.

What do you think, maybe a go?

That's highly unlikely. Here's a much more believeable Clear Channel scenario, with secondary channels (provided these stations ever hear of HD Radio):

96.1 KMXG Adult contemporary / Classic AC on HD2
101.3 KUUL "Super '60s and '70s" / "Good Time Oldies" on HD2
103.7 WLLR #1 Country / Classic country on HD2
106.5 KCQQ Classic Rock / Live classics from the stage on HD2

The HD scenario (albeit hypthetical) is more likely than not 'cause....

1. Mix 96 airs it's own "retro Saturday night"
2. KUUL currently airs "Super '60s and '70s", but tends to air some '80s hits that should be on Mix
3. Q106 airs about four songs that were "recorded on the stage", hence the live HD subchannel suggestion

I think what you're describing is an adult top 40 format. Honestly (and I'm going to ask this on the Las Vegas board too), maybe not. I think you don't know is that may hurt KQCS Star 93.5's ratings as it already isn't looking too good according to Radio and Records online. Why do I say that? Well look at what others have posted about the possibility of top 40 radio entering again for a retry in the Las Vegas, NV market! ALL OF THEM say it would hurt KMXB Mix 94.1's ratings which is more modern than Star so that doesn't make sense as CHR is more closely related to hot AC which KQCS is than modern AC.

Nah, how bout we flip it to Spanish and make people try out that music as on the LV board, this certain someone SAID LV STILL DIDN'T HAVE ALL THEIR PRECIOUS SPANISH FORMATS (when they have like 5 or 6 stations already!)!

I'm very fed up with Cumulus anyways. They are like the new Infinity - VERY reluctant to streaming their stations! Only the Houston and Indianapolis markets of Cumulus are streaming.

In reality, maybe a smooth jazz format would work. They never tried it in this market so how would they know it wouldn't? Man, I wish more people would stray aside from the traditional formats! Wait, I know what would work! A rhythmic AC format! That would be sorta like what you suggested but even better. It would also appeal to the female audience also and be an alternative to KMXG. I vote for rhythmic AC as long as I can hear it online. No more top 40.

It's more of an issue of reluctance to update outdated equipment in order to even
have streaming as an option. You buy a bunch of stations, you want to turn a profit, you have
to maximize what equipment you have and replace only what you need.

BUT streaming will be in place this year.
