I ran across a parked domain for WWFA at 1027kiss.fm so I would suspect we will see a website soon. Also, the station just launched a text message service last week for their listeners. Could it be the Shoals finally has a technically savvy radio station who gets it?
As I'm a former radio guy who is now "on the couch" and an armchair PD (aren't we all). It's been interesting watching the radio station grow over the last 5 or 6 months. In my opinion their music and imaging seems to be spot on and could run head to head with a top 10 market station. Seacrest is even saying the local IDs within his breaks and sometimes even introduces the song as "heres the new one from lady gaga on the shoals new number 1 hit music station 102.7 kiss fm". How the hell?? Is Seacrest actually voicetracking the show for them??
Their list of advertisers seems to be growing some too, with a few big establishments having recently jumped on board. Also, it appears some of the advertisers from their other station in Corinth have jumped on board to attract consumers from the Alabama market. Mainly big ticket items as of late like a car dealer, lasik surgery, and a strip club named Cherries (hahaha).
The station's main local issues and programs type things they have been focusing on include a dont text and drive campaign, along with a huge campaign about pet spay/neuter, euthenasia of shelter pets if necessary (which the station supports), and pet adoption. I've heard "Debbie" from the animal shelter on the past few days around 5:30 talking with Tic Tac about those issues. He seems to be pretty blunt on air about the euthenasia, rather referring to it directly as it is - the gas chamber. While referring to the number of dogs euthanized during the summer months (which apparently is much higher), his choice of words "a dumpster of dead dogs every day" seemed a little shocking but the bluntness painted a vivid picture and it still sticks in my mind.
That concludes this programming meeting.
