Kiss 95.1's O Show

I was driving through Charlotte this morning and heard the O Show with Otis and Brittany.

It's certainly a far different show from the one that Ace & TJ did and kind of an unusual one for CHR in that it was fairly music intensive. Personally, I prefer this kind of show to all talk and comedy.

I thought Otis sounded great, and Brittany complemented him well. I saw Brittany's background on the website, but Otis' bio said only that he's been in the market for 6 years.

My question is where in the market has he been, doing another shift (maybe evenings) on Kiss?

Otis originally came to Charlotte in 2007 or so as Kiss' evening guy. Moved to afternoons in 2009, then obviously to mornings this August.

I haven't really gotten a chance to listen since he moved to mornings, but Otis is an excellent jock so I'm not surprised the show sounds good. And I'd rank Kiss, as a whole, amongst the top 3-5 Top 40s in the country.

I agree Kiss 95.1 is an excellent-sounding station. So far, they're killing Clear Channel's entry, Channel 96.1.

Kiss 95.1 is quite a contrast from 94Q in Richmond, which once was a great station but now makes heavy use of syndication and voice tracking.

96.1 should go back to a rythmic format in order to differentiate themselves from 95.1, or else change to an altogether differentiate format. They were better as The Beat, the Channel format doesn't seem to be working. And 107.9 should go more Hot AC, as they sound a bit tired and bland. But agree that 95.1 soiunds good.

96.1 could go classic hits, the format that continues to scream "VOID" in the market. It would do well. I don't know if the 70s based format would hurt 99.7 The Fox, though.

Agree on 107.9, just what I've said on here for ages..

Yeah, I'll bet it's Clear Channel and budget cuts

Kiss 95.1 is in a great position cause it's CBS-owned, yet CBS lets it "do its own thing" musically - and since The Link shifted towards AC, Kiss can exclusively grab Hot AC tracks and play them alongside Urban-leaning tracks

Richmond's 94q and Channel 961 are both owned by Clear Channel which explains all the syndications. Kiss 95.1 has been a good chr everytime I visited that city.

I miss them as "The Beat" too and think they sounded better. The music mix really hasn't changed that much except for Channel 96.1 is noticeably more conservative than 96.1 The Beat was. For instance, I don't think any station in Charlotte is playing "Mrs. Right" by Mindless Behavior or "Marvin's Room" by Drake, yet those are pretty big hits right now in other markets, and would sound much better in Channel 96.1's playlist than the occasional spin of Daughtry or Nickelback they do which sounds awful. I never understood the point in making the change they did. Hot 104.5 in Knoxville is a good sounding station and sounds like 96.1 The Beat used to.

Power 98 is far too R&B leaning and doesn't fill the void 96.1 left when it flipped.

Knoxville's Star 102.1 and Hot 104.5 are both owned by Journal communications. Star 102.1 is mainstream CHR while hot 104.5 serves as a rythmic chr flanker. Those 2 working together led to the demise of Wild 98.7 in Knoxville.

I don't think Knoxville even has a black station on FM. That's surely got to help.

Will be interesting to see if come January, Ace and TJ eventually end up on 96.1. I believe they almost hired them once before, and Clear Channel carries their show on some of their stations in other markets. And I believe they had a good following in Charlotte.

Aren't they doing their shows from the CC-Charlotte studios now? I know they said they're staying in Charlotte, even without an affiliate, so I'm beginning to wonder if that's the case.

Actually, according to their news letter their non-compete expires mid-December. They should be back on the air then. I'm betting 96.1, because they changed their calls and tweaked their format shortly after Ace and TJ left Kiss.
