KISS 95.7 and KC101

What is the difference between KISS 95.7 and KC101. They are both CHR-TOP 40's, owned by Clear Channel and both station can be easily heard in Hartford and New Haven area.

Why doesn't Hartford and New Haven needs 2 CHR's owned by the same company?

This question has been beaten to death on this board like Poker Face has been beaten to death by Kiss 95.7

KC101 plays more rock and recurrents and has some unique audio processing for a CHR, Kiss is a rhythmic CHR and it speeds up the music. KC101 comes in on Long Island much better.

Has Kiss 95.7 been rhythmic even the days before Hot 93.7 came on air? I forget. Sure I know their were some more rock songs but CHRs played some hip hop songs.

They don't! The station that tanks the fastest will see a format change quicker than one of their robojocks can spew out the call letters. ;D

KISS 95.7 went on the air as a mainstream Top 40 that would play rock songs before TIC-FM would. KISS became more Rhythmic later down the line (around 1987) and became more successful under Jefferson Ward and Jay Beau Jones. Under Jay Beau, they finally beat TIC-FM 12+ and 18-34.

KISS hasn't had a good format since the late 80's early to mid 90's. They are going after ZMX's audience, which they will NEVER get. They need to stop paying their consultants and start paying attention to what their listeners want.

Wow, if that happened, imagine how different the radio dial would be! I guess it's a dream at this point.

And it sounds awful doing that!
The music sounds better, and hotter sped up.... come on, we've had this discussion here before

I thought Power was surpose to go after Hot's audience. As for Kiss going after Hot they really aren't. I doubt Hot is even worried what Kiss is doing.

Good radio is giving the majority of the listeners what they want. Why else would you be on the air? A consultant from Laguna Beach CA isn't going to be able to relate or program to a CT, RI, NH, MA, etc audience.
Radio might some day turn full circle. When is the question?

No, it's sounds "sped up" and not natural. It certainly does not sound better, nor hotter and yes, we have had this discussion here ad nausium. Different strokes.

Is KSS going to survive another book with those numbers? They used to be a good station. What happened?

There are some stations that pitch up too much...but when used in moderation, between 2-3%, it makes everything sound much crisper, and brings more energy to any station... and let's face it, CHR is all about - or supposed to be - upbeat energy and forward momentum.

I think Kiss has much bigger problems than pitching.

They have MAJOR programming issues. Starts with the morning show and ends with the night show.

I agree with all of this, but it sure sounds like a lot more than 2-3% on KSS, IMHO.

I wonder if the songs are sped up on Seacrest's show? I rarely get a chance to hear him, so I don't know.
