KISS 95.7 has most listeners??

Last night KISS played a promo that said no station has more listeners in Hartford, Springfield, and New Haven than KISS 95.7. Do you think they can really make that claim? I would think they might be second in those three cities combined.

Just curious.

They can claim whatever they want. The could have the most listeners within a certain group of people. For example they could have the most listners among teenage boys who bleach their hair blonde, drive BMWs, and think Brittney Spears is hot.
______________

Jay below me is right...and they are far from second...remember, at least in New Haven, KC101 and WPLR automatically would have more listeners with stronger hometown signals. They probably use some demo rating to use that claim, stations do it all the time.

They're probably looking at total cumulative audience in the three markets combined. Kiss has the advantage in two of those three markets, for one thing. Also, top 40 stations tend to have very large cumes and lower TSL (time spent listening) than other formats. Obviously, in Kiss' case, if indeed they have such a large cume, boy their TSL really sucks, at least in overall 12+ shares (which doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot...but usually somewhat meaningful for a top 40 station)....Just my two cents.

Arbitron has funky rules about what you can and can't say on the air. For instance you CAN say "We're Arbitron rated #1!" even if you're not. On the other hand you CAN'T say "This is WXYZ, write it down!".

Kind of bizarre if you ask me.

you can say "today you listened to ---- ... now go tell it on the mountain!"

we ran a liner with a country song with the lyrics "write this down" and played a clip with our position right after...

I remember one time I was listening to the Charlie Profit Show on WXCT and Thom Morgan (who later became their morning guy) was on with Charlie (I don't remember if he was on the phone or in the studio) and Thom said something to the effect of "Tell Arbitron you listen to Charlie Profit on WXCT 990 AM". And Charlie said something to the effect of "You can't say Arbitron on the air". So Thom then said to the effect of "If any asks you what radio station you listen to say WXCT 990 AM".
______________
