Kiss 953 New Morning Show!

I was on Facebook and since I am a fan of Kiss 953 on Facebook I found this message in my news feed:

Kiss 95.3 is making room for a new morning show, you will now be able to hear Matty in the Morning on our sister station 107.1 WERZ. WERZ is celebrating Matty in the morning’s arrival by giving 10 lucky listeners 107 chances at a minimum jack pot of 12 million dollars with NH Lottery’s Mega Millions!

So does this mean they've hired new morning hosts or could it be a syndicated morning show coming?

Also does Matty in the Morning fit with WERZ now? A few years ago I would have said yes but their music has changed since then. My other question is will WERZ put in their own music or use the CHR from Kiss 108? How does the syndication of Matty work with the Hot AC in Providence he is on?

Bob and Sheri were added to WERZ several months ago (has it been a year already?) perhaps they will move B&S to 95.3 or perhaps Elvis Duran?

B&S were added the Monday following Clear Channel's "Reduction In Force: part two" at the end of April. As for Matty "fitting" the station, he does very well W 25-54 in Boston and did well in Portsmouth when he could just be heard on WXKS...so, it's a smart move. I would guess they'll cover the music as WERZ became a Mainstream AC at the beginning of '09...but who knows??

Last I got a change to listen, WSNE (the Providence Matty affiliate) was running the same music as WXKS-FM. That being said, Matty's show is undeniably the oldest skewing on the station, so while Romeo on WSNE would be very out of place, Matty isn't. Plus, doesn't WERZ lean Hot AC? It's not as though Matty's going over to 98.7 The Bay.

Matty is a good fit for WERZ. While the station is technically an AC, their music mix leans much closer to Hot AC. As another poster said, Matty's demos will fit right in with what WERZ is doing. It also is an upgrade signal wise, extending the reach of the show even further.

Originally Kiss 95.3 was designed to be simply a pseudo-simulcast of Kiss 108, and in many ways it still is, but it looks like the station may go it's own way. Don't be surprised to see the Clear Channel Premium Choice CHR format being plugged in there, led by Elvis Duran in the morning. 95.3 wouldn't have to re-image, and it gives the station more flexibility in scheduling spots. Several CC stations around the country run it 24/7, including WKGS/Rochester, NY, WLKT/Lexington, KY and WKKF/Albany, NY.

Matty will be getting a lot less coverage, "signal wise".Almost anywhere you can hear WERZ you can hear KISS 108.KISS 95.3 covers a lot of area that neither WERZ or KISS 108 does.95.3 covers all of York County in Maine & southern Cunberland County.

These maps aren't real accurate, but I can pick up KISS 95.3 up into Portland and up to North Windham where WERZ goes away at about mile 15 on the Maine Turnpike.

After looking them up on MediaBase 24/7, WERZ is back to reporting as a Hot AC and their playlist reflects it...but they were a full-fledged Mainstream for a while. Since '07 they've been an Adult leaning CHR, Hot AC, Mainstream AC and now back to Hot AC. Hopefully it works for them this time.

I agree with Andy Taylor WERZ has more coverage in the same areas as Kiss 108. When I compare Kiss 108, Kiss 953 and WERZ the move will only help in Concord because Kiss 108 disappears just south of Concord while Kiss 953 dissapears just west of Concord while WERZ has a fringe signal in Concord. So this will really only help people in Concord and hurt people north of Biddeford.

I also noticed that when Matty switches to WERZ people in Lowell will be able to hear him on 3 stations from 3 different cities. Anyone from Lowell know how well WSNE and WERZ come in in Lowell?

WERZ can no longer be heard in Concord due to W296BK, a translator for 107.7 WTPL being right there.

WERZ was always difficult to pick up in Concord, even prior to the translator for WTPL.

I think Clear Channel is more focused on putting Matty on a more established station (WERZ is heritage in the seacoast)

As someone else also mentioned, this will now allow WSKX to run CC Premium Choice CHR format and offer another platform to sell at CC/Portsmouth.

I see a lot of combo buys of WERZ/WSKX. Guaranteed saturation of the coveted Woman 18-49 demo.

Neither station really comes in at all, WERZ is a really tough catch, Matty is only heard on one station in Lowell on WXKS.

A Boston DJ, Matty in the Morning on WERZ! I'm LMFAO What a joke.

Well I suppose it's better than the previous show from Charlotte, NC, lol.

As for what's now on 95.3? Nothing this morning as they're off the air. I'm currently in Hampton, NH where normally WSKX comes in, and I'm hearing WHRB. 102.1 WSAK is also off.

Hampton really got hammered last night with the storm. A large chunk of Ocean Blvd. businesses were destroyed in a 5-alarm fire. As well branches down everywhere.

So who's doing morning for 95.3 now?
I was listening this morning about 9:00am and heard Matty in the Morning on WSKX. I then checked WERZ and he was on their too. I don't think Kiss 95.3 has started airing the new morning show as of today. I'll listen again on Monday to see if the new morning show has started yet.
