Kiss "Charlie's Angels" Goodbye

One thing's for sure: This season has not been kind to dramas. If "Charlie's Angels" had a better timeslot and better stories it would've done better in the ratings.

This timeslot would've been better suited for a "Ugly Betty"-type program. But one gets the feeling that ABC is going to put one of these upcoming shows in this slot. So if you're waiting to see "Missing", "The River", and "Scandal" and the "Bosom Buddies" inspired "Work It" land the 8/7PM Thursday timeslot, I feel sorry for these viewers if ABC goes that route.

Remakes are tough to cover at best and not all that many have succeeded. What hurt "Angels" were a couple of things:

1. The original series wasn't very good but it attracted a good audience due to the good-looking sex symbols in leading roles.
2. For all the realism it portrayed it might as well have been animated.

I think society at large has moved beyond the nudge, nudge, wink, wink "cops" in high heels.

I don't know what was worse the acting or the writing... I watched the first fifteen minutes of last night's episode and that is all I could stomach.

Umm.....Is this the part where I'm supposed to look shocked ?? ???

Cheers & 73 ;D

I think we have an oversaturation of cop/lawyer shows on TV. Pretty much every drama on TV now involves cops, lawyers, or some combination of both. We even have 2 different shows with the word 'Blue' in the title: Rookie Blue and Blue Bloods. Shows like The Mentalist and Criminal Minds are very similar. Every episode of SVU is similar to the last. How long can this trend continue? Can't somebody come up with a concept for dramas that does not involve crime?

I watched the first episode and the actor who played bosley was so wooden I couldn't take it and he wasn't the only one wasn't this the type of show that would have been syndicated on weekends on the upn or wb stations back in the 90's.

I haven't seen the new Charlie's Angels.I figured it would not last.Like the new Knight Rider,Bionic Woman didn't.The old show is up online to watch which I rather do.Also those reunion shows are to much to desire because they are so boring to watch.I rather see the actors to act their roles then sit at a roundtable and talk and show old clips.Remakes today stink because of crappy actors crappy writing and over doing of computer FX. I can picture the skipper of Gilligan's Island yelling and cursing at Gilligan.Or Archie calling meathead a sob or calling With todays standard of crappy writing is not family friendly no more.

...pretty much. Remember Pamela Anderson's V.I.P.? At least the first season of SheSpies played the whole silly concept for laughs (and it was legitimately funny)...

The original Charlie's Angels series airs every night on Universal HD.

The original Charlie's Angels featured decent scripts, eye-popping (at the time) actresses and great supporting actors. In other words, it was a good and entertaining show to watch. In it's day, it was groundbreaking, yet well-done. Hence, it was VERY popular.

The remake was pale by comparison with the most predictable "updating" imaginable. 'Let's bring this show into 2011, blah, blah, blah.' They tried to hard to do that and blew it. The writing was crap, the casting predictable and the acting sub-par. Anyone who liked the original found the new one to be crap and anyone who didn't know the original simply didn't get it. As comparisons with the movie, meh. It wasn't all that good either - yet it was far better than this mess.

So yes, 100% agreement with landtuna: predictable.

The first series was all about jiggle and titillation for the male audience.
No way you could ever replicate that in the too-PC environment of the 2010's.
So they tried to make the show something different and it did not work.

We had two good ones last season, or at least I enjoyed them. They were actually comedies when they could be. "The Defenders" and "The Good Guys". I was really sorry to see both go.

I suppose I can say this because I never was tempted by the "Law and Order" shows ... I mean, not really. And the same goes for "NCIS". I was tempted by "Criminal Minds" partly because of "Dharma and Greg" but heard it was too gory, like the "CSI" shows.

I was enjoying this show. Minka Kelly was the main reason. Maybe she'll go back to treating Max's Asperger's on "Parenthood".
