KISS-FM returns to Chattanooga...

Sounds like a premium choice station, even though it is not, YET. Imaging is boring. Like a lot of CC Top 40's it's very stripped down. It's the thought process of "the ONLY reason they come here is for music so let's not get in the way AT ALL! We need to sound more like an MP3 player!" Which in turn makes their stations sound very very dry and boring.

If WDOD stays on their game and tightens up their playlist they will have no problem here. They've got a good morning show and they can out local Clear Channel on everything. They just need to get a little more focused.

Never underestimate the power of Clear Channel. A Rhythmic leaning CHR/Pop station might be what the doctor ordered. I think 96.5 The Mountain is a great sounding CHR, one of my favorites at the moment, but there might be room for a Rhythmic leaning one seeing as how the market is only served by one Urban, and there's a growing Hispanic population in place.
103.7 Kiss FM sounds similar to a number of CC's other CHRs - 96.5 Kiss FM Cleveland and Channel 93-3 San Diego.

It's too bad CC doesn't own any properties in Knoxville as I think this type of CHR would make for some good competition for Adult friendly Star 102.1. It'd be wedged between Star and its sister Hip Hop station Hot 104.5. Or it would have been nice had a CHR made its way back to Jackson, or to a full market signal over in Memphis.

Still, it's going to be interesting to see two CHR/Pop stations go head to head in Chattanooga. The radio landscape in that city has changed a lot for the better in the past year.

How is this going to be any different from when WKXJ was Kiss fm? Speaking of Knoxville and Kiss fm, I wish Huntsville would also flip 100.3 the River to a Kiss station and add Dawson McAllister and Seacrest to give adult leaning ZYP some competition.

Dawson Mcallister? He's okay, but Top 40 needs good high energy personalities. Up in Bowling Green Wuhu 107 did the ultimate - they started airing Dawson's show every weeknight around 7 or 8 PM. That's way too early, and that's usually the time when you need a FUN jock to have a good interactive-based night show. Full of prizes, new music, listener requests, playing all the big hits with 12-24 year olds (as opposed to 18-34 year olds in other dayparts).
You're absolutely right though - 104.3 ZYP is in serious need of competition. The fact that a little 300 watt Rhythmic CHR can get over a 5.0 share proves it. I wouldn't be surprised if Hot 103.5 is ahead of ZYP in some demos.

I think Hot 104.5 is already your Rhythmic Pop station. Hip-hop? No way. They can't even say the word "Hip Hop" on the air. They call their music "hit beats" whatever the heck that is! I think what Knoxville needs is a real hip-hop station. But of course, as explained previously here, the demographics of Knoxville would never support it.

KNOXVILLE IS IN MAJOR NEED OF AN URBAN HIP-HOP/R&B STATION

WTF?! First of all ... it shouldnt have left in the first place. Oops. The New Kiss FM better be bringing back the old staff! Riggs/Mike/Heather/Shrek... This town needs to get back on track with their music, and get the good times rolling again. The new GM has f**ked up enough with US 101, dont make another mistake by half-assin the new Kiss! Bring it back the way it was - with the people that were there. Damn

I enjoyed Hot 104.5 throwback mixshow at noon today,,, they even sprinkled some dance in.

Clear Channel won't do that because they're not willing to spend any money. I imagine we'll be subjected to more of their "Premium Choiceless" programming.....

While we are questioning CC, anyone know what is happening to CC's Chatt. Counrty stations? They are looking down in the new book and 107.9 doen't appear to have gained much.

Anyone remember 97 Kicks, or whatever WKXJ was called when it was 97.3? This was in the early '90s. On the occasions I heard them, they were CHR, but they'd throw in a weird oldie every so often.

They sounded kind of slapdash, but they were better than most stations now.

Hot Jammin' Kicks FM. I loved that station! I moved to Atlanta and was able to listen to them every once in awhile when they were simulcasted on the 101.9 frequency from Ringgold, GA. When I had heard the station had been sold I got my brother in Ringgold to make me a couple tapes of them which I still have.

Since the new Kiss FM Chattanooga has been on a few weeks, how does it sound? What is their morning show? Do they have any syndicated stuff?

Actually 107.9 is owned by Citadel.

That was my question. CC had US101 and WLND country oldies both are down from 20+ to 15. http://www.radio-info.com/site/markets/grid/chattanooga WOGT Citadel’s Former Oldies is also lower and I think it is lower than when it was oldies. I bet they wished they had stayed oldies and used S. Shannon’s True Oldies.

I'm sure Kiss will do the cookie cutter thing that many CC Kiss CHR's do is pipe in Seacrest, Valentine, Jo Jo and such. At least they should have a local morning show. The Mountain is at least local and I'm sure the music is locally programmed which is rare these days to still have an in house MD! I'm more or less routing for the local gang The Mountain.
