Kiss-FM Vs. K-104

Speaking of WRWD Vs. "The Wolf", this is another discussion about these two top 40 stations, Kiss-FM at 96.1 Vs. K-104. As you know, the music sounded a lot different than K-104 does, but it plays some more hip-hop and R&B, just like Hot 97 and Power 105 does in New York City, as for K-104, the music sounded more like Kiss-FM does, but it plays some current dance music.

Thoughts.

I completely agree...

I don't know what you are talking about. KissFM is not K104. KissFM is R&B, K104 is CHR-T40. Sure there is some overlap, but it would be like comparing Hot 97 to Z100.

What is your point?

If we just ignore him, will he just go away?? Maybe he'll go back to the Magic Kingdom or Never Never Land and stay there.

Kiss is not an R&B station, rubes. R&B stations don't play Gwen Stefani, JoJo and Fergie. They report to the Rhythmic/CHR panel. Big difference.

fine. great. bad choice of words on my part. point is they are not K104. I just have no idea where the initial post was going.

You may like Scotty Mac as a PD better, but Jimi Jam (Spears?) has taken 3 stations and formats to #1 in their target demos. WRKW, WBWZ & WPKF. That, I think takes talent.

As a side note, I think Boris at WRRV deserves more credit as a PD. The active rock/alternative formats are very weak with product and have been for quite sometime yet his station is well executed, the jocks sound decent and the station is solid number-wise book after book.

It takes A LOT more then a so called talented PD to take a station to #1.
Obviously, it takes the air talent and other intangibles, but to do different music formats well still falls a great deal on the PD. The PD is the one hiring the talent in many cases and finds promotions that fit the station.

I agree, Borris has done a great job. However I think a large part of their numbers are benefited from being the sole alt rock station in an area that likes it. Move WRRV 50 miles south and I doubt it does as well, IMHO.

K104 wins by far, Good audio processing killer signal!
Kiss FM on the other hand audio is real muddy sounds like the treble is turned down, That and their stick is on that little hill in Arlington! its 4400 Watts of pure static. Try parking your car in a sweet spot where the stereo light stays on without blinking, its quite the challenge. Why isn't kiss FM up on Illinois Mountain in highland? signal would be a lot cleaner like WRRV ?
