Kiss, Kiss...Goodbye

With Lex and Terry needing a new radio station in a few months, I’ve heard word (more than a few times) in the Clear Channel Jacksonville building that KISS-FM might be the new signal.

Kiss is also the lowest billing FM in the market, behind Rooster and Planet. I also do remember hearing in the halls that the only reason they signed Kiss was to “Take down WAPE” They’ve yet to do that in almost 6 years.

Kiss has been a ratings and revenue embarrassment. I would also suggest that the people at Kiss start sending out their tapes and resumes…

I wonder if L&T would have the clout to demand in their contract they be on a C or C1 signal? If so, Rooster may be the one going away.

It'd be funny just to see MJ lose yet another affiliate. But at the same time, CC Jacksonville extended his contract for 4 more years about 15 months ago.

My bet is that either they will put them on 93.3 and make or more of an active rocker the rest of the day, or kill Kiss and make it an FM talker, especially if they also put L&T on Real Radio in O-town.<P ID="signature">______________

Why would they be added to Real Radio in Orlando? The Monsters' ratings have been great in their key demos. Plus they're local, L&T aren't.

L&T have stated on the show and in a recent interview I read, that their deal required a "full market signal"... So, for whatever that's worth, but even then that doesn't mean Rooster is going away, maybe they just move to another signal and another format goes away

KISS has been a ratings and revenue embarrassment!? I can't speak to the revenue, but as far as ratings go, I don't know what numbers you've been looking at. MJ has pretty consistently beat WAPE. KISS nights were #1 with women 18-34 and #2 persons behind the Beat. Afternoons are #2 women behind the Beat as well. The only place WAPE has been able to keep KISS down is in middays (only slightly) and in 12+, and the only people who look at 12+ numbers are people who know nothing about radio. Not to mention the fact that WAPE is a full 100,000 watts, and KISS is around 12,000.

Recently WAPE has been getting a lot better, and it's not because they have some kind of brain trust over there, it's BECAUSE of KISS. Once you have a solid competitor climbing up your ass, you get better, and quick. If it were an even playing field: signal, budget, heritage... KISS would take WAPE any day.

THey won't put LT on Kiss the signal is to weak. Look for them on 107.3. The format would change but it is 98,000 watts. WPLA is only 50,000.

Looking at Maximizer, I see that in the last five quarters,
WAPE beat KISS 6a-7p every quarter in both A and W 18-34.

As every WORKING radio professional knows,
no one generates revenue from evenings/weekends.

Which leads to the often-forgotten realm of revenue.
WAPE is usually one of the top 5 billers in the market while
KISS is barely in the top 10.

End of debate....

Sounds like the rant of a perrenial LOSER. You must work at Kiss.
The playing field will never be even for you there in Jacksonville because you are simply facing a stronger competitor. Stop crying and move on.

Budget? Kiss gives away $10,000 AN HOUR. WAPE had a $10,000 BOOK promotion. The difference? WAPE made it sound BIGGER.

Signal? WHERE can you not get Kiss in the metro?

Heritage? What does heritage mean to 18-29 year old females?

This is the THIRD pd we’ve had to come in here and make excuses for not beating Ape. I know for a fact that bigwigs down the hall from Skip have had enough of the excuses.

97.9 with Lex and Terry in the morning! It’s on All Access today!

1. It says on All Access that LT on 97.9 is a POSSIBILITY. Get your facts straight.

2. Up until this last book in adults 18-34 Kiss has held its own against WAPE and there are not alot of agency buys for W 18-29

3.In regards to billings WAPE has always been in the top 4 in monthly billings no matter how bad there numbers are. Thats how a heritage station can help you. Also Cox is very aggresive in cluster selling their stations and it shows with WFYV, WOKV and WAPE all in the Top 5.

4 Dont you realize that listeners are tired of the national contest that CC runs.

No, what it says is this:

On the L&T site, TERRY is quoted: "They just said, `You’re gonna be on a radio station that covers all of JACKSONVILLE.' That’s it."

CLEAR CHANNEL/JACKSONVILLE VP/Market Mgr. NORMAN FEUER recently indicated that he'd announce a decision in mid-DECEMBER which is just around the corner. That's led to lots of speculation about where L&T will end up. Scenarios have gone all the way from blowing up CLEAR CHANNEL Country WROO (ROOSTER COUNTRY 107), to moving that format over to Top 40 WFKS (97.9 KISS-FM).

WFKS is not a full market signal. Why in the world would CC pay all this money for the biggest show in the market and put it on a partial market signal? Think people, think.
