I guess we'll find out soon enough if the rumors are true. One thing that would make me believe it's possible is that their new owner, Riviera, also owns the Edge in Phoenix. KEDJ has had a nice ratings spike since Riveria took over the station.
I think that being so close to KXTE on the dial would help them get new listeners to sample the station. Also, they would be going alternative at the same time Xtreme will be vulnerable as they soon lose Stern.
On the downside, is the signal too weak for a format as mainstream as (despite the format name) alternative to succeed? My theory is that on a poor signal you must offer programming that is unique and can't be found elsewhere. I suppose they could come up with some angle of alternative where they would fill a void. But if it's too generic or mainstream, the signal will kill them.
I actually think V108 has decent ratings considering their signal limitations, I don't thnk they could do much better than that no matter what format they chose. At least with Urban AC, they are filling a hole you can't get elsewhere.
If they do go Alternative, I will miss Michael Baisden. I'm normally not a fan of national shows for music formats, but Michael Baisden is one of the best in radio today, he is an excellent talent!
