Ok we all know it is time for Kiss to get a little facelift. We all know Janet and the crew should be on Star in am drive. So what bout this:

Pump in Elvis Duran Morning Zoo from NYC
Add in Seacrest for Pm Drive

Nice. Kiss in Buffalo would be just another generic souless station with pumped-in personalities that know nothing about the market.

I agree that it's time for a face-lift for Kiss (not Janet), but how about a BUFFALO morning show that listeners can relate to, and a PM drive show that focuses on US, not the latest Seacrest gab-fest with some overhyped, pampered Hollywood "star"?

WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING SYNDICATION. This is Buffalo, not Podunk. We expect - and deserve - better.

Spend more , get less?

Kiss isnt mentioned on the boards that much as it's clear as day most of the board is not that into Usher, Akon, or Fall Out Boy.
However, the station is a borderline heritage station that does fantastic local support (Charitites, etc) and has fully embraced the fact that real music competion is out there (iPOd, web, text, MySpace).

A face lift is most definatley due, ever since afternoon talent Jimmy T went back north of the border to Toronto. DJ Anthony is admirably filling in on drive time, and definatley has paid his dues.

Star clearly needs real LOCAL female talent besides Sue O'Neil, and Janet ranks right up there. The "Cool mom" act on Kiss gets old quickly. Eventualy, the boys startin finding the wacky weed and the girls...
Plenty of dudes to go around (Lucas, Christian, Demay, even weekender Mike McQueen)

Question: Do you just move the Kiss AM show 14 feet down the hall to the Star Studio? Or should it be re-packaged?

Rox is correct. Last thing we need is more "Celebrity Sleeze" over the wire from NYC/Miami

Future Moves

Maybe when Roger Christian retires (in 2038), they'll move Janet & Co. to Star, put Rob in mid-days, and revamp the Kiss line-up.

By then, Janet will have evolved into the "Cool Grand-mom", or maybe Cher.

One wonders what the music on Kiss will sound like...

Considering that females from 12 - 50 listen exclusively to either Kiss or Star last time I checked the arbs, I really don't think any "revamping" on either station is needed. Just because you gents think something about a station - that clearly isn't geared to you gents - doesn't make it true. Not by a long shot.

Hey, did you hear that WHTT's Flashback Weekends are now permanent? Now THERE'S something you guys can sink your teeth into!

"Exclusively," eh? Or was that only a figure of speech? No YRK, no JYE, no Wild, no BLK? I'm just askin'.

The WHTT Flashback Weekend has me listening on weekends. Very good music from the 60s, 70s, 80s. It sounds like what CBS-FM is doing all week.

And a check of the NYC ratings shows CBS-FM is doing quite well and the numbers are going up since going back to Oldies last year after their incredibly dumb jockless Jack experiment. Live, Local and 3 decades of Oldies to appeal to a wide audience - hey, what an idea! Sounds like something that just might work in Buffalo and Rochester. Not that I'm holding my breath in anticipation.

Yes, WHTT is sounding quite good on weekends, but enough of that. This is a Kiss thread. You'll please excuse me if I sound abusive or curmudgeon-like, but most of us who post here don't give much more than a horse's patoot about Kiss. Not because Kiss is a bad station. In fact, it's quite decent and so are most of its personalities. And certainly, no one here begrudges the right of any poster, regardless of age, to put up a thread about Kiss or Wild or Energy or whatever happens to be the flavor of the week in 12-24 demo-land.

But. Our indifference to Kiss and Wild may stem from having to endure the stony, detached glaze and ambivilence of so many self-absorbed 17 year olds who seem to believe that the only purpose of those over the age of 30 is to respond to their every need. If this explanation paints me (sorry, couldn't resist) as a curmudgeon, color me so (just use two coats so I'm well covered.)

You wonder why we spend so much time delving into the history of radio, policy, the great (and not so great) men and women who made radio a medium we enjoyed listening to and participating in? You wonder why we write about issues that seem to be leading radio further down the path of no return? You ask why we discuss stations like WBEN, WJYE, WECK-WNIA, WWKB, WGRF, WHTT and Star?

It's because we've been around the block a few times and with each lap, the neighborhood changes, not always for the better.

As to Kiss' morning and afternoon shows, previous posters have said it quite well. The station's doing quite well with local personalities who are well-recognized in this community. Perhaps they're out of the demo, but they're far better than anything that might be imported from other markets and retro-fitted into the Buffalo landscape.

That's my take. Rack me. Moreluvpeaceout.

Mr. Radknowski paints a pretty accurate picture as far as I'm concerned. Not to paint with a broad brush but a lot of the vets on this board would rather comment on topics of substance rather than the flavor of the day amongst the young 'uns. Color us skeptical when instead of touching up a format management rolls out a mix or jack or whatever. That station is primed for failure and will soon be scraping bottom. I'm out of painting terms so I'm done. Blame this one on Brador.

A raised-glass toast to you sir, for a most colorful post! Uncle Oskie would surely approve and Aunt Helen would probably want to hire you. Gotta love that Brador!

Speaking of personalities who were out of the demo....look at "The Hound". He was way out of the demo yet it worked. I guess he kept up with his audience or maybe they were more accepting?

According to a friend, if you move the Kiss AM show 14 feet down the hall, they'll be on KB.

Hmmmmm. You boys may be on to something...

What? A threat at negotiating time? "If youse guys don't take a pay cut, we'll put you on 'KB, where NOBODY will ever find you."

Meanwhile, Back at KISS...

Not to get back ON topic or anything, but is Kiss going to replace Jimmy T, or is DJ Anthony going to remain in PM Drive?

IF they have any thoughts of developing a morning show to replace Janet & Nick, you'd think that PM Drive would be where they'd expose new talent. It's not that Anthony doesn't deserve the promotion, but I don't see him as a morning drive jock, and he's not that much younger than the current (aging) regime.

I haven't heard anything about Shannon Steele in mid-days. I hear more buzz about Shy Guy Shawn.

OK, youngsters, it's time to step up and show Radknowski that you have an opinion, and that you do care about radio...

Hey Rox, do you work in talk radio? Trying to whip up some controversy here?! Heh, heh. As for Kiss' potential afternoon drive opening, Kiss might consider talking to Val Townsend who does PM drive at Mix. OK, now all the 18-34 posters can flame me from here to Hamburg. I'll be at the "early bird." And stay off my lawn, dammit!

PM drive seems to be a mystery but also seems the most volatile position (Doc Reno, Donnie Walker, Jimmy T), which shifts everyone up, Anthony did wknds when Donny walker did Nights. Reno did afternoons. Reno left, Donny moved to PM Drive, then DJ Anthony grabbed nights.

Correct in that DJ Anthony may not be the morning face of the station (who would be partner?). Never the less, he's a top-flight personality that does well enough w/the younger demo and puts 'fannies' in the proverbial seats (remote apperances, high school events). I remember he used to do mid-days, and seemed WAY out of place.

Shy Guy's been the "lifer", he voice-tracks overnights plus handles most production. The man's all over the place and has pretty decent street awareness with 2nd level nightclub appearances. Seems to be on the cusp of great things, but just not there yet.

Shannon's handling APD duties admirably and makes mid-days work; she's got some radio mileage. Chrissy Cavotta was fantastic doing mid-days there, Met her a few times, very down to earth personable woman.

Val Townsend... now that will stir the pot!

as if citadel would let val go to entercom, ha!

fwiw, according to shy guy, val's first radio job was AT kiss -- she was an intern in 97 or 98.
