KISW to flip?

I heard from a very credible source that KISW is changing formats Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. Adult contemporary perhaps? How crazy would that be? Supposedly Whitney Houstons " The Greatest Love of All " will be their first song. :( Well, I suppose this finally opens up a job for Robin and Maynard huh?

I doubt KISW is going to change formats. They were tied for 6th place in the ratings for the fall period. It might be KNDD(1077 theend) is going to change. Their ratings were horrible, a 1.8 share in the fall. Since they are both owned by Entercom.

Damn! Some people are willing to create any far-fetched situation for R&M to come back to Seattle radio. Give it up! Their show is WAY dated, irrelevant and unfunny. Doesn't Pat O'Day need some help promoting that rehab house?

My "source" is merely a sales guy for Entercom. He could be messing with me, but a flip would be kind of funny.

The Robin and Maynard comment was my attempt at humor. I am merely one of many in this town that doesn't miss them OR Andy Savage.

Maybe KISW will change to the "Everything that Rocks" format like they're doing with KDKB in Phoenix. That station was close to changing their format after 35 years as a rock station. So, Maybe they'll do the same thing with KISW.

If that is true...that is very sad. Like an old historic Seattle building or monument, getting rid of a heritage rock station that's weathered the test of time and made it so long-just very sad that it would be gone.

A flip would not be funny at all. It's the quick fix of corporate radio like the Jack, Charlie (movin if they don't do something decent) shallow lame formats and greed induced style that is a great idea for a couple ratings periods and then wind up all in the tank eventually. No one brags about telling everyone that Jack is their favorite radio station even if they do listen. It's like telling everyone how f-ing AWESOME IT IS SHOPPING AT WALMART!!!!!

I could think of a few Entercom stations facing a format flip, but KISW is not one of them. If this is true (and I seriously doubt it is), it is an incredibly stupid decision.

Obviously anyone who has seen the ratings knows KISW is going nowhere. My guess is that the original poster is a member of BJ's crew starting this post to give them something to talk about on their show tomorrow. Same thing when the country rumors starting swirling around. BJ spent a half hour talking about it and actually began playing country songs. If I'm right on this, it just goes to show how bad some creative minds are in radio that after such a long vacation, you have to start a false rumor to create show material.

I dont work for KISW, In fact - I am currently unemployed. So your theory is a little bit off.

See, if you're unemployed that would make you the perfect BJ listener. ;D

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

That was too easy, dont the unemployed not get up before noon? ;)

But, when I can catch it, I do like both BJ's show and the Men's room. Otherwise its KIRO.

Flipping a heritage Rocker like KISW doen't seem right. The market is in a little bit of a box, or tizzy, if you will, as 104.5 comes on line with presumably The Funky Monkey. A three-wayer with 104.5, 99.9 & 107.7, all rockers, will spell ratings disaster for all of them.

This might be making Entercom execs sweat. Either they sweeten up KISW, or stay the course. I guess we'll see. My bet is that they go the easy way out and improve KISW and stay the course. Clear Channel's response will be to keep the Monkey on 104.9, and
let 104.5 become the market's first FM Sports/News station. But then I believe Entercom would have blown the single, best opportunity for a KIRO simlucast on 107.7. Come on Entercom, you know that KNDD is a glorified KEXP. So simply foil clear channels' evil master plan and be the regions first FM News/Sports station KIRO AM/FM. And this leaves
CC holding the bag...."what do we do now?" they say. Shoot! Now we have to run the Monkey against KISW!

Flip to what? Rock? It is essentially a talk station now. The flip happened when they moved the buzz one notch down the dial.

What is the rush to move all the heritage talkers or News stations to FM? The only Talk format on FM for the most part is HOT TALK and that format is the laughing stock of the radio industry...it is only a matter of time until most of them flip to a music format! Keep the heritage talkers on AM where serious Talk and News lives!

Seriously though, this city STINKS with "generic" corporate radio. I like the talk, I like KEXP, but I really enjoy roadtrips cross-country, where I can just channel surf for hours and not get sucked in for more than a few minutes at a time.

I miss the old Young Country that was on AM 1090 too.

I remember when KISW was a Rock Staion..."More Rock Less Talk"...

Ok, so what do you like better? BJ and The Men's Room, or Ricker and Jolene?

Although I am a music fan, I vote for BJ and TMR.

BJ is a Tom Leykis wanna be...Ricker is a Damn kid...I like Joleen...

Legacy and heritage are of little media value today. We'd all lament the demise of a heritage radio station, but Plymouth, Oldsmobile and Packard were legacy names that went away when they were no longer relevant products. I doubt KISW is doing anything other than generating some blog press, but the lesson remains. Legacy don't mean squat today and probably shouldn't.
