Ben

LOVE the interviews. Happy 40th KISW!

Come to think of it, I once heard a reel tape of KISW in their classical days, recorded in 1968. I'm gonna see if I can dig that up........

Listened to Pat O'Day's interview twice today. All these folks stories are excellent, but Pat's story had me laughing........

Now I know why I wasn't a fan of KISW...
I actually like EIGHT of these "What were we thinking?" bands/songs.

Kittie were cool. Totally jailbait, but cool.. But Nickelback and The Dorkness (WHO DARE let Tiny Tim front an '80s throwback hair metal band?) I could have done without......Please don't even get me started on Limp Bizkit.

But occasionally bizarre music at times is nothing new on 99.9 MHz. KISW also played "Check It Out" (2004) and "Intergalactic" (1998) by The Beastie Boys. In fact, they've played them since "Fight For Your Right (To Party)". Has anyone else noticed that?

The classic Make-A-Wish Radiothons - Where anything from "Go Away Little Girl" Donny Osmond to "The Sensual World" Kate Bush could be yours for a spin guaranteed. And just your Visa or MasterCard number. It was sheer payola. But one that was technically legal. Because all proceeds went straight to a non-profit charity.

It was kind of like a radio dunking tank. Where KISW gave up it's perceived pretensions and played WHATEVER you dared ask for...for that happy little number. And I've surrendered mine a few times.....

But the record companies soon figured this out and quickly started outbidding every one else on the very last Radiothon I heard on KISW since.

I think KLSY also tried something like this too a few years later.......
