KITS 105.3 Stunting... Return of Live 105?

Didn't know people DX'd FM stations. Always thought that was for AM, where back in the pre-digital world, I could pick up stations from Pittsburgh, Nashville, Louisville, New Orleans in the Bay Area late at night. Can't imagine FM would be much different between day and night...and the distance can't be more than 100 miles.
There are plenty of FM bandscans on YouTube showing DXing and E-skip - depending on your location, you can receive stations from 300-500, even 1,000 miles away. All depends again on location, and atmospheric conditions.

And let's not forget, the quality of your radio/tuner. A cheap box with low sensitivity and/or selectivity isn't likely to grab onto these distant transmissions.

Very interesting - 88 Kearny is a central, visible location, just a block away from Montgomery BART. I used to work across the street and could see 88 Kearny from my office window - at the time, it was where Citibank had some San Francisco offices.

Yes, interesting. Wonder if TV will seek smaller quarters. There's a movement afoot nationally to sell heritage CBS real estate.
Easier to do in New York and L.A. SF isn’t exactly packed with TV studio space—-which is why KRON moved in with KGO when it left Van Ness.

True, as regards KRON and 900 Front. But they didn't get "studio" space in 900 Front, unless you're considering KGO's old radio studios on the 3rd floor. I've been in those studios, and even as nice as they were for the kind of radio KGO used to do, they were totally inadequate for any TV production other than booth announcing. So KRON needed to gut something, somewhere in that building to accommodate their needs, and that can't have been cheap.

Moving is expensive, especially if you have to gut the new space to accommodate your needs. CBS/KPIX will need to save beaucoup bucks on the monthly lease cost to make the "leasehold improvement" costs (including moving vans and such, telecomm/datacomm improvements, control room buildouts, studio and broadcast equipment expense, etc., etc.) worth it in a reasonable payback period. I wonder how many years of lease cost savings it will take before those costs are fully amortized.

A profile on the return of Live 105. Interesting tidbit buried in it: Audacy is finally moving out of the CBS facility.

I see Audacy in a much better light than what I used to. It says a lot to admit they were wrong

I guess we'll just ignore the fact Live 105's ratings stunk for a decade straight. If it were performing well, it would've never been scrapped in the first place.

Not that relevant. As the Riff article makes clear, it's not being reconstituted exactly as it was before. They're giving themselves some room to maneuver. The phrase "music discovery" has been used quite a bit on-air, which is a positioning that's wide open in this market and that puts a different slant on the music selection than it had applied previously.

The other thing that struck me from the Riff article was the number of people involved in Audacy's discussion of a change. Clearly a lot of thought went into the decision to flip.

Not unusual. A lot of money at stake. The other side of this is a lot of heads are on the block if this doesn't succeed.

They're banking on John Allers and Kevin Weatherly.

KRON most certainly did get studio space at 900 Front. There were two big TV studios on the ground floor there for KGO-TV, one of which is rented out to KRON as its studio.
