KITS 105.3 Stunting... Return of Live 105?

Here is an aircheck of Live 105 from 1989 when Steve Masters was there. Yes its from the first time Live 105 was on.

Now here is the current ratings on KITS-FM in its second stint as of 2024. I remember at one point KITS-FM was near the bottom of the ratings when Audacy rebranded 105.3 FM from Live 105 to Alt 105.

Tuned it in a bit on Friday while in the area, still a massive bore. Should be called Dead 105 since they don’t even have live DJs anymore. Naturally I heard Nirvana’s “Come as You Are,” I don’t think they’ve ever gone one day without playing that.

That clip shows how great this station WAS before it went to crap in the 90s, blows my mind that they changed the format then changed it back while still making the same mistakes that killed them the first time. Still so much great new music out there that they could be playing instead, but aren’t, and using a dead automated presentation with no personality why wouldn’t I just listen to online music instead?

The March ratings show they've attracted a consistent audience that is larger than it used to be. Why not listen online? I expect most people do a little bit of both, depending on their mood. Radio isn't going to get people to listen exclusively. That's not how they program. They program for the occasional listener.

Can't find it now, but somewhere, either in this thread or one that's related, I referred to the current version of KITS as "Music of Your GenX Life".

Go back and read about the first 80 or 90 posts in this thread, or anything from "PrezSquid". You'll find that you're not saying anything new, to be honest.

They do have live djs. They’ve hired local staff, it isn’t exactly hard to see that considering there was a thread here, promotions all over and the station has plenty of DJ’s during the day.

Lastly; what could they be doing better? I’d argue not playing music that fragments rock and alternative listeners like “No Doubt” (lol) or Eminem — I don’t care where it is on a chart, find the person you want to listen to your station and see if that group is on their playlist, I promise you, as a 27 year old rock listener and Live 105 fan, it isn’t. It might have worked once but those are the problematic songs. I also think there should be more emphasis on a larger playlist incorporating metalcore, as it is flirting with the playlist — even as a DJ on Live 105 said after playing Bad Omens — “we should really play more metalcore”. That’s a more delicate situation because despite the name, (I promise it isn’t metal.) there is plenty of songs that are labeled between alternative and hard rock in that genre that could fit and are very spun on streaming services, YouTube, etc.
