Kix 106 Morning Show

Are these guys not the worst? They are like a baby John Boy and Billy. All they do is call themselves and do crappy sounding voices. They pretend to be Ophelia Ford or some teacher, and it sounds exactly like them. Whoever told Young or Elder that they can do voices was KIDDING. It's not funny at all.

I know they have great ratings, but I think it's because they are teh only country station - NOT because of the unfunny turds in the morning.

Can anyone else stand to listen to these humps?

Whoa! Somebody needs to switch to decaf.... :)

All kidding aside, your comments can be distilled into what has been pondered since the format-flipping began not too long ago:

Can the Memphis market support another fully-powered Country station on FM? (Talk amongst yourselves.)

There are many other threads under the "Memphis" board that delve further into this with pros and cons.

As for me, I like my news and sports during my 15 minute commute to work, so it's AM in the AM. (Ha ha, he made a funny!)

OK, everybody in the pool!!!

Uh, maybe they have to do their own voices because Citadel's too cheap to pay for outside character voices. Farid's trying to buy those ABC stations and--believe it--he's ordered
every single market to pinch pennies so he can come up with enough lucre to make that
deal happen. So paying for character voice bits has likely been chopped.

You know, when I lived in Kansas City, Young and Elder were the morning show on KCFX for a brief period. The people I knew said pretty much the same thing about them that you're saying. I never found them to be my cup of tea in any way, shape or form, though, in all fairness, I'm not sure that makes them bad radio.

> Whoever told Young or Elder that they can do voices was KIDDING...

They can't do voices. AND, THAT'S THE POINT. The joke, usually, is not what the poorly-voiced fake caller is saying, it's the reaction of the clueless listener who doesn't get it. While I am not comparing Y&E to Phil Hendrie, it's the same schtick.

Y&E is in no way a perfect show. But, I have to say that they have grown into the role. And, heck, you can't complain about the numbers.

Phil Hendrie...dang he was funny!

Apollo...apparently you're #1 in NYC the way you trash folks. I'm not a Y&E fan either, but they ARE successful, so I suppose they are doing something right. From what I hear, morning radio ain't easy...

Let us not underestimate the retiring and un-retiring of Capt. Pat as a contributing factor to their success. He's in his 70s, yet will pretty much go along with whatever.

But on a serious note, how can any of us laugh when Buck Jackson's mother just died?

I'm amazed by this thread. Not good at voices? Who in Memphis radio meets your expectations? Clearly all these voices are Brian. That's the hysterical thing about it. Are you only happy with a voice guy if you can't tell who it is? If it's a dead on imitation of a celebrity? I know people who go around immitating Y&E's Bryce character, which is a spot on portrayal of a certain segment of the mid-south. I, myself, did not know it was him doing the teacher bit the first time I heard it. The pay-off to that feature is the reaction to the people who don't get it, and the ones Brian argues with "in character". Love it, or not, who else does anything close to unique around here?

I saw Borat, the #1 movie in America, and thought of Y&E all the way through it. Perhaps you hated that movie as you hate Y&E. It's a guy doing a bad voice, allowing people to reveal of themselves. I wouldn't be so quick to assume their success is in spite of their talent.

I realize the voices are not supposed to sound that real. I get the joke.....just not amused by it. Neither is anyone else I know. Time for a new bit. You do sucky voices and call yourself, morons call up to complain.....yadayadayada.....maybe they can come up with something else if they're so original.

And another thing.....way too much dead air and laughing at NOTHING. The other morning, they did the traffic. Then they laughed for 20 seconds.....at what I'm not sure. I sure didn't hear anything funny. Then there was almost seconds of ...."Hmmmm....well alright........Ahem.........well..... ummmmm.....OK....." before they started talking again. And that's not out of the ordinary for them.

It's hard to keep an interest when there's NOTHING going on. Talk or play some music. Or as my dad used to say, "Sh1t or get off the pot!".
