This board cracks me up. In the Spring 05 book, KIX had a 9.1, the first large book in a generation. A half decade after the demise of Froggy, KIX finally had a great book. This board was loaded with the obvious message. KIX succeeded because it has no competitor. Never mind that a lack of a competitor had traditionally been earning a 6 share.
The following books were Summer 5.1, Fall 6.1, and Winter 5.9 (Adults 25-54). For three books, not a word about KIX needing a competitor. This book, KIX scores an 8.4, and the unanamous conclusion is that KIX could have farted an 8 share, since it has no format competitor. If having no competitor is a license to sit back and cash checks, I've sure missed out on a lot of bonuses.
One of the reasons our morning predicessors were invited to leave in '03, is that they logged a 3.8 in AM drive....with no competitor.
Hey. It's great to be us right now. A competitor would have stung. We're all amazed every morning we wake up without someone coming after us. Back in '92, Froggy spent a fortune on the Fat Guy Dancing commercial, and never made a dent against KIX until nearly five years later. And, in my oppinion, KIX was run locally by idiots, and owned by a small company. I'm not so sure they would have made as much progress against our current PD, and...Barnstable was no Citadel.
I'll hate the day we get a competitor. But I promise you, being competitor free has rarely been enough of a force to float to the top. And playing country music, in and of itself doesn't necessarily make the dent you all seem to hope it will. I suspect the three companies that make up Memphis radio have considered that.
