KIXI? KKNW?

These stations have perfectly solid AM signals that are wasting away! What if one of them dumped whatever they play now for an oldies format? To replace KBSG? It couldn't hurt them since they are #30 and #40 or whatever in the market now!

Come on! KIXI give up the cobwebs for an oldies satellite format! Same routine, more audience!

KKNW'd never change - it's brokered-programming heaven for Sandusky. As for KIXI - Scott Shannon's "True Oldies" channel would be a good choice and not only would it get more audience - the core demos would drop 15 years.

That's what KRKO should do immediately. They can always add in local shows and cover the Snohomish County events just like stations did years ago. Great music, strong local news and information and you'd get local billing. Not McDondald's or Sleep Country but local direct business. It could be done. Slapping more syndicated talk ain't going to cut it. just ask KKOL.

It would be great if KKOL would drop the talk and flip to oldies and play the pop music from when KOL was a good AM Top 40 station in the 60s and early 70s.

Never mind that about two-thirds, maybe more, of the audience has no idea what KOL is or was. Otherwise, great idea. ::)

You know that KIXI's night signal has trouble penetrating the Factoria Safeway store at night, right?

But I do agree, it couldn't hurt to try and do that. Even though KJR-FM would have to do only minor tweaks to their clock to adjust and largely fill the void left by KBSG.

True AQH. Many transplants here. It always stuns me when I mention JP Patches and I get a blank stare, then I have to ask..." you didn't you grow up here did you?" By the way, for those who do not know already, tomorrow is J.P. Patches and Gertrude day in Freemont from 1-3PM. They will be unveiling the statue.
I will be attending. Would not miss it.

Doubt it. Salem deals STRICTLY in religious, ethnic or conservative programming. I know of no Salem owned station that plays any form of secular music (save the KPOZ "Positive Country" experiment on 1590 in 1995.)

And I don't think you'd want to hear "You Light Up My Life", "Put Your Hand In The Hand" and "Spirit In The Sky" ad nauseum even if they did.....

Even I just barely remember KOL-AM (I completely missed KOL-FM, everyone says that was one awesome rock station for it's time. Local rock concerts at the Paramount, aired LIVE on the air in their entirety - if you can believe!....)

You obviously know alot about the costs of running a successful local/small market radio operating just outside of a large market profitably. That being said, you should put your money where your mouth is, call up the GSM, and tell him/her that you personally GUARANTEE you will increase the cash flow of KRKO by at least two million dollars a year. I'm sure they would be pleased to listen. Hey who needs those regional buys from McDonalds and Sleep Country anyway?? Especially in rough economic times!

mamma hasn't checked out this board in ages. I can tell you that MOVIN will NOT be going oldies or anything else. Unlike most of the market revenue is up and ratings remain very strong. KBKS had a fluko month but MOVIN still tied or beat them in most demos especially 25-54 ladies and adults and pounded on most of the rest of the market. On the four book MOVIN is the deal and just wait. Check out the personal persons meter PPM in LA nad SF and you see massive jumps for MOVIN. In SF it is top five in the ya ya demos. PPM proves what mamma has been sayin all along it is the format of the future. Have been reading throgh the threads on why Bone A ville switched and this lady is laughin. Haven't heard it and have no plans to listen to the simulcast of a statoin t hat had no ratings as an AM anymore. You think putting it on Fm means it gets better. ya ya funny. The reason people under 50 and women don't listen to AM is there is nothing for them to listen to. Does that mean crappy KOMO-AM goes on to STAR-FM. Ohhhh boyyyyy the ratings will soar. How about KTTH on KISW. Yep that's the answer. Women and those under 50 will listen to AM when there is something worth listening to. When will you boys in radio understand. It isn't about the am modulation or fm modulation or hd or whatever. It is about the ya ya factor on the air. Good programming wins and that is why mamma knows best!!!! This board is always good for a laugh or five.

Yeah, honey, KQMV is the future. How much are you paid to promote this 1/2 hit wonder anyway?

No one is listening to KQMV compared to KZOK or even KBSG pre August.

Yeah they have some teenagers or young adults, so what? They aren't KUBE. When you get KUBE or KMPS hot, then sell your snake oil!

It's just like reading some pathetic trade magazine, everyone is #1!!!!!! Please!

Could not have said better. Didn't your daddy tell ya? If momma aint happy no one is.
They say your selling snake oil momma....well I think I'm lubed pretty good with oil that's been sold so far.

If I were Sandusky, I'd kick KIXI to oldies. Not only would you keep about the same audience separation (leaning female), but again, it would go from being the OLDEST age station in the market (yes, even ahead of KING-FM) to one of the younger... a format like Scott Shannon's True Oldies or even talking to Jones about using one of their 'super hits' formats would work for you.

On another note, I sometimes hate KKNW because it blocks my ability to hear KSL 1160 at night. Once I'm in Snohomish County, it's clear as day.
