KIXI will pick up the John Tesh Radio Show for mid-days

I'm that beyond a handful of people posting on this board no one's really going to care about this one. But I will say it's a better station for Tesh, not to mention a better daypart.

What were they running before Tesh, the "Talk with Women" show? I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful, but I really cannot think of a reason why anyone would be interested in a show like that.
 
Could this be a sign KIXI is moving to soft AC, now that Warm actually plays rhythmic music like "Call Me Maybe" and "Royals"?
 
The only way for KIXI to survive is to move younger and get an FM presence either with a translator or an outright FM signal (KIXI-FM 98.9?...not likely).

For those who assume that John Tesh is associated directly with an AC format because of having been on KPLZ, remember that Tesh sends his voicetracks on a daily basis to all the affiliated stations in his network. It's up to the local station to place the generic tracks within whatever music format the station already has. From what I remember, Tesh was providing the same tracks across the board from contemporary Christian stations to classic rock. KPLZ just happened to be an AC station. What will be interesting in the whole KIXI thing, is what music Hubbard wraps around the Tesh tracks. Heck, the fact that KIXI even still plays music is interesting in itself.

Oh, and GO HAWKS!

Although you do see a lot of self-selection with Tesh which I'm sure is what KIXI will do, I thought he also provided a version with music and all.

In other words, John Tesh doesn't work very hard ;)

KIXI is a very interesting radio station in the sense that I really don't even know how to classify their format. Some of their tracks lean AC, and some of their tracks lean oldies. With such a soft sound, Tesh is probably a natural fit.

As I recall, "Big D and Bubba" were an example of what Kelly was talking about. When I would hear their program on the old KNBQ, a song would end followed by some sort of automated bumper of them saying "102-9 Q Country", and then they would launch into the program.

On certain shows you will hear the host state the station and format (as if they were in the studio), but instead of talking about the music they launch into a personal interest news story. If you don't pay close attention, you might think it is local radio.

I haven't been to Seattle for years but can't imagine a translator working well enough to significantly increase listenership.
 
It's the terrain and the sheer size I'm talking about. You could probably cover most of Seattle and maybe, Bellevue from Queen Anne Hill but the Seattle market is much bigger than that.
 
I'll state the obvious. I wonder why Sandusky has not bought KMCQ and Moved KIXI to FM. KMCQ does cover better than a translator. I bet it covers several retirement communities. And it does it using very little power compared to a full class C FM. Sure KMCQ still has transmitter rent cost but the fact KMQ uses less power and the power bill is in the hundreds versus Thousands for a station that has a Transmitter out put of 20KW. I'll bet the power bill at KIXI am is around $3,000 a month.

If any format would work on KMCQ it would be the KIXI format. The we could get another sports AM station.

Even though I'm 2,761 miles away, I can answer at least one of the questions and make a reasonable guess about the second:
1. Sandusky no longer owns that station group, Hubbard does. Hubbard are very good radio operators, who's track record is to not overpay for stations.
2. KMCQ has been WAY over-priced for a partial-market signal.
 
Oops forgot to check my ownership charts. It's like calling your favorite watering hole by it's old name. Not that I'm partial to Sandusky or Hubbard. But Mark Kaye is one of my all time favorite GMs.

I agree on the over priced. Maybe they think the power savings will help make the price easier to deal with. That extra $1000 savings on the power bill a month will offset the monthly payment a little.
